    More problems on s2

The drivers electric window has stopped working, i stripped the door card off today to check wires, i swapped the switches from passenger to drivers side and the switch worked. i have read every thread about windows but no one says anything about a conclusion. could it be a relay?? when i press the switch for drivers door i can hear a relay coming on and off??? Can anyone give me any suggestions please any help appreciated. Also bulb gone in dashpod are these specialist bulbs and can they be sourced locally???????? they are the orange holders (osram)..

Apologies if you've read and rejected these threads, but sounds very similar to...

    Electric Window Thread 1
    Electric Window Thread 2

      Window mech

Had the same problem last month with mine. Turned out to be the regulator cables seized in the motor drive gear. Took the complete window out took the motor cable cover off and soaked with penertrating oil, then covered in spray grease. sprayed all cables with penertrating oil then rebuilt. It took all in all about 40 mins and now works like new.

The bulbs are standard amongst Audi cars of the 80's and 90's. Grab a handful from a local scrappy. I think that I have some in a tub at home, I'll have a look for you tonight if that's of any use to you.

You say you swapped passenger switch to the drivers door. I take it you meant that you tried the drivers switch on the passenger side. If not you just proved that the switch is faulty. It does happen, my last coupe had a dead winder mechanism (cables snapped) and a faulty switch when I bought it.

If you know the switch is healthy having tried it on the passenger side, put a meter onto the wirinig into the motor. If there is voltage when you try and drive the window it's a motor / mechanism problem. If the power doesn't get to the motor it's a relay problem. Either is easy(ish) to sort.

The motor is held in place with 3(IIRC) bolts and taking it off the fram will show if it works given power. Not sure where the relay lives but it shouldn't be difficult to track down with a wiring diagram.

The window mechanism on the Audi's is poor. The wires snap, fray and jam easily and people panick when the window goes down and is never seen again.

Just check for one thing at a time, you'll sort it just fine in no time.

Just had a rummage in my shed / workshop / hiding place and I've got a couple of orange bulbs, a couple of the black and a couple of white. If any are of use let me know and they are yours.

            thanks guys

thanks steve, went to the scrappers and got some replacement bulbs, thanks for the offer. Managed to get the window to work stripped the mechanism and re-greased and now it works. Its bit of a bull ache. Just have a problem with the full beam light blown but its in a special holder with the wires soldered to the side.
