The man who did all mechanical work on that R8 is near-family from me. For my car he made the brake caliper adapters for my 360mm setup.
On the R8 he did all the welding, assembling and removal of unneeded parts, like removing the FWD (to save weight), exhaust work, etc. They will begin to make a lot of components in carbon now, like the hood, fenders, etc. to save more weight. I heard next year they will probably buy an extra R8 based on the TDI when it comes to market.
