Don't talk to me - I got my first 3 points two weeks ago - sneaky b'stards with a hair dryer on a clear open dry road at 6am - go and catch some proper crims for fugg sake.

I came off 11 points 3 days before I was driving up in sussex area going down a nice bit of open countryside, rounded a bend straight into a 30mph with them standing there, I got caught at 52mph in a 30mph, result was 5 points and a 160 fine. Since i'd gone from 11 down to 3 I effectively put 5 back on taking me up to 8 atm.

Insurance is still not too bad, I was paying 400 third party fire and theft with 11, i've since had to renew so shopped around, result was 227 quid with 8 points full comp now so not too bad. I just hate the fines.

Well here's a thing - I was going to try fight it on a technicality (they listed the car as an Audi 80 which won't agree with the DVLA info) but it was 'a fair cop' as they say. I was doing 59 in a 40. It just frustrates me they have plod standing their at 6am to catch people cruising into work early who wish to avoid the traffic problem. That stretch of road is chockablock an hour later with 1st gear required for about a mile. Kak.

If it's a 30mph zone you've been caught in it is always worth checking that the 30 signs are up to standards, as well as the road markings. Always fight, you'll normally win. Ensure the location of the offense is correct, lots of ways to catch 'em out guys.

you got done at 6am, thats harsh. I hope you requested evidence and vehicle details as well as officer training and equipment calibration certificates.

Thats what I did and it turn out the pic logging my 85mph on a duel carriageway has another car in the shot that could have upset the reading hence taking it to Court.

Anyway its always worth a try.

Do the Sat Nav's with the speed camera alerts, with updates downloaded regularly from the net via subscription, not work well enough in the Uk? I appreciate that some of the above points were issued by police using a mobile/hand held unit?

It more of a general query?

You all have my sympathies vis-à-vis the points.

                  Kind regards.

Most of them work pretty well, some of them even have locations of mobile speed cameras, i.e. cops with hair dryers as they generally hang out at the same places.

I've been using the Origin B2 for several years now and it's definately saved me a few times.

Last time I got caught (before I bought the B2) I got stopped and charged with two seperate speeding offences! Had left my work at late o'clock after a bit of overtime, speed limit was 30mph but soon changed to 60mph as I left the industrial estate where I worked, I was clocked at 39mph as I sped up too early. Didn't pay much attention to the set of headlights far off in my rearview mirror as I nipped on through the nice twisty bit before hitting town a mile or so later. As soon as I got into town I slowed down, but not quickly enough. Second offence 49mph in a 40. Got done once with the hairdryer and once with the incar equipment. Got a lecture about how they suspected I was also going too fast on the the section between the offenses but they couldn't prove it. I guess they'd have been better off in a quattro rather than their senetor on the twisty (and wet) section of road. Really had to bite my tongue when I was in the back getting my lecture.
