I use my S2 Avant as a daily, I drive 40 miles each way to North Greenwich Station from Tonbridge in Kent (work in Canary Wharf) as for MPG, no idea, If it needs petrol, i put petrol in it, but it does seem to drink a lot.... my alternative is my Alfa GTV 3.0V6 24v, and to be honest thats not great on fuel either, and the S2 is so much more fun to drive, everyone tries to race me in the Alfa, so i do prefer the S2, but i broke it last night, the bloody throttle body (plastic retaining part the holds the cable snapped off!) and Audi dont sell them seperately, so the nice man at tonbridge Audi said "you can buy a new throttle body, that will be £645+ VAT") so im stuck with the Alfa till I get the billet part from 034...

but theres no way the price of petrol is going to make me sell the S2, or the Alfa for that matter, look at it this way guys, do you smoke? I don't, but if you do/did thats on avarage £5.50-£5.80 for 20 fags, per day, so looking at about £40 a week, give up the nasty habbit, and spend it on fuel (from Shell, or Tesco, or Sainsburys) but not BP or ESSO and not only can you half fill your tank every week for the same money, you wont smell, get nasty illnesses, or have to stand outside in the cold at a pub...

      just my two cense worth....

I guess you would call my S2 a semi-daily driver I use it when I can't use the wife's Ka (which is quite often) however having just had the bike serviced I may use the bike a bit more to save on fuel costs.

According to the MFD I average 26/27 commuting, I suspect it is better than that in reality.

I drove mine easily when I first got it and I used a full tank in around 200 miles when I first got it and thats when petrol was ever so slightly cheaper.

Not when getting 260 miles to a tank - that's steady 70 mph cruising.

When driving it hard my personal "best" is about 60 miles ish to a tank....:mischeif:

no, daily/only driver for me so no option to keeping putting fuel in it, petrol's a lot cheaper up here than down south, cause it doesn't have so far to travel etc,etc

Met up with Coxy today, (pic to keep y'all happy)

And we were talking fuel, showed him the mpg trip which I reset when I left the South Coast, so that's up the A24 (Mainly dual carriageway with roundabouts, plus some fiddly bits around Dorking/Leatherhead etc), then M25/M40/M6/M54 to Telford, night in Hotel, Cold start and run into Wolverhampton in the morning peak, then run up the A449 to Coxy's... 29.4mpg average... Back at the hotel, 255 miles since fill up, between half and quarter of a tank left... Seriously.

As a side issue, I wonder if there is a link between the stark mpg differences and the ECU/Chip re-map types?

My daily is a 406td, it's a bit of a comedown from the S2 but you can't really argue with the mpg, saying that, from Friday to Friday last week I put £140 in, that hurt!

I used to run it on 90-100% veg oil but now everyone's at it that's gone thru the roof too!

So, lpg???? I've looked into a conversion before and asked the relevent questions but the sellers are, of course, only going to tell you the best bits.

So the question is: Can a pretty much standard S2 run on dry as a bone lpg or does it need nice wet 98 oct running thru it?

I'd love to chop the 406 against an LPG kit if it would make even half sense!

                        Cheers, Dave.

it does hurt but I have noticed my driving style change....well sometimes..:mischeif:
costs ain't pretty and it's the only car we have!!!...
I use my car for a daily commute of 50 miles round trip & get 28 mpg, 30 on a motorway run using regular unleaded. I have an ABY with Homefries.

Homefries has given me a 2 mpg increase which with my mileage means it'll pay for itself in a year.

I've never found that super unleaded gives any better mpg but I know others disagree with me.

Several people are getting depressed by their mpg display - on our generation of cars it isn't that accurate & usually under reads, so don't let it get you down

The only accurate way is to record how much you put in and how many miles you do but you can adjust the mpg display by +/- 15% in 5% steps using the DIP switches on the side of the instrument binnacle (Hidden until you remove the binnacle)

But just to console us all, spare a thought for all those running around in modern, super green, new cars bought with their own money. Depreciation is the biggest cost of owning a car and they are loosing thousands more than we have to pay in petrol

Finally, I've been puzzling on why my local Tesco has a sign in front of the sunflower oil saying "limit 6 per person" - now & I know and to think I was hoping someone had found something interesting to do with it............
