when you say two different types of door card is that the one's with the pockets that on the earlier one's just go along the bottom of the card and the version that swoops round and goes up the card slightly?

    Can i ask Mr. S2central.net...

To look at the differences between a 2.6 v6 on an M plate and the s2...pretty please

    Drive train mostly.

There are interior diffs which are more strange, seemed to be 2 styles in the B4 chassis...door card wise.

Thats handy to know, I do miss my 20v quattro sport and the look of it when I was following it in a transit van with someone else driving

tbh dest if you can sort out storage you can do bits at a time, that would be the best way to do it. Parts are easy to come by if you know people

I always forget that 6A engined 80 quattro... D'oh - its a proper B4 chassis. Did some homework over lunch on the family album there. Some nice discoveries...

Perfect donor is late MY92 with a VIN starting as 8C-N... It will be an 8C20B5 machine.

From 8C-N-230001 the 6A engined quattrosport even shares the same front subframe as the S2 Sedan but thats a bonus. Here are the main areas of similarity between 6A-qs and ABY S2 sedan

    Same steering rack
Same brake servo & hydraulic bomb
    Same ABS
Same fuel tank and EVAP essentially
    Same rear subframe
Same front subframe (on latest versions)

Obviously very similar suspension and running gear, but when transplanting the ABY stuff in there are some notable differences, namely :

    Driveshafts & propshaft
    Rear Diffs
Front struts, springs, dampers & hubs (82mm bearing and 5x112 PCD)
Rear hub carriers for 82mm bearings
Rear springs & dampers & hubs
    Different fuel pump on ABY
Delete the fuel accumulator from 6A (K-Jetronic dinosaur)
Engine & gearbox mounts are different but attach to common locations

Thats basically it, plus some trim, instruments and badges

Couple of weekends work if all the parts are at your disposal. No welding required on the chassis as far as I can tell

    @ AndyC.

If you have time and space, go for it. Otherwise, get the time and space, then go for it!

    yes it did.

i nearly bought one. it was a audi 80 sport quattro with the 6a engine. After my Corrado got written off i was on the lookout for a car i could use my freshly built 16vt in. i looked at a silver 80 sport q in leeds. he wanted a grand for it. was too tatty for me though as the company car allowance was funding it.

mounts are in the same places as far as i can remembe from chopping the front off a 2wd 80 sport for the 6a

Ohhh really - the 4cyl chassis has same engine mounts as 5cyl on the B4 - I didn't know that...

I know the 2 liter 4cyl 16V quattro competition in B4 saloon trim was built in sufficient numbers and sold in Europe as LHD but did a 4cyl quattro (B4 saloon) ever get to the UK ?

TBH - any decent welder working off good reference points should be able to modify the B4 V6 chassis for the right engine mount brackets. Thats the only complexity I see hear... Everything else is pretty much 'bolt on' !

Engine mounts wouldnt be an issue, or any other welding/fabrication for that matter
I meant everything else bodywork wise, mostly thinking about the rear bumper more than any other bits!

If I ever did do it (chances are slim unless my housing changes and I get a garage - not going to happen in the for-seeable future) I would HAVE to use my Avant, as I simply wouldnt be able to fund buying an 80q AND another S2

    Wot was i thinking...

Wont work at all, ever, nothing fits, even the nuts and bolts.

So dont even consider it...as i haven't collected all the bits for mine yet.

    Depends...

on the q you buy...mines a v6 so i need to mod the engine mounts...believe the 2 lt q's have the correct mounts all ready...but dont quote me.

    Basically yes...B4 shell you mean?

Yes but I would NOT destroy a damn nice Avant like yours to give birth to an S2 Saloon... Best to use an S2 Avant beyond economical repair as the donor vehicle and gather up any other missing bits separately.

Hmmm..... I could sell the S8's to help finance buying the 80q.
Believe me, I would do it if I had somewhere to store it while it was being done!

Am I right in thinking EVERYTHING I need is already on my Avant, its just a case of swapping it all over?
