    Brake upgrade

    Hi all,
Brakes gave me a bit of a scare today on the Autobahn. Can anyone tell me where i can get hold of a decent front brake upgrade, and how much damage this will put in my wallet

Search for 996 and read what you find.

I've had that on the standard stuff, it's not fun, ABS full on and the car isn't slowing down... 996s are the best on a budget, expect to pay £500 or so by the time you have amassed all the bits.

        scary

Had some bad brake fade on my 86' Cq at the weekend after pushing it a bit on some country lanes. This despite the Cq being a lot lighter than the series 3 and running on 280mmx22mm front black diamond grooved discs and matching predator pads and 256mm x12mm grooved solid discs at the back. Not sure what to do with mine as want to keep the factory option Ronal 15" wheels.

They are the porsche upgrade more common on s2s, take it you've already got the twin piston g60 girling callipers on yours already.

Problem you'd have with yours is finding discs to match up with the callipers so you can retain those gorgeous 4 stud alloys

The Porsche 996 brake upgrade is a good one to go down IMO.

I used this guide to get an idea - http://www.slybadger.com/cars/s2/brakedetail-new.htm

As you can see a good deal bigger than the stock setup:

Discs, calliper and pads, you can see they are "monoblock":

A Monoblock caliper is a one piece unit rather than the older style 2 or more pieces held together with high tensile bolts like on the RS2 and early porsches.

See this months Audi Driver regards my experience trying to fit the twin pots to my series 2. Gone back to the single pot due to lack of room after spending time and money refurbing the twin pots. Doh!! The pic shows the lack of room on my single pot 280mm set up.
