I've always liked the Evo but the appeal of them is starting to wear off. They need huge services fairly regularly, they cost over twice as much to insure as my S2, aren't as good on fuel, bootspace is nowhere near as much (I've got an Avant) and also I'd much rather do a long journey in an S2 than an Evo. Plus, once you've wound an Evo to the redline, you'll be missing that 5 cylinder noise. Nothing comes close to it.

i used to have an evo 8 and an evo 5. i've now got a s2. i'm saving up to get another evo 8. sorry to pee on the s2 bonfire but i just prefered my evo. it all comes down to what you want in a car. having said that my s2 is much nicer and better built inside than my evo's. also the burglars would come to my house alot for the mr.bishi's whereas they leave the s2 alone.
I just got stuck reading everyones replies so thought I would chime in...
I'm over here in the ol usa where we got neither of the cars, but over time learned to build and such...
right now I've got a aan'd coupe with stock k24 putting about peak 250kpa and tapering to 200 at redline...fun as ***** but I don't have the suspension setup propperly, no rear sway bar and stock center diff...its fun, predictable, but a bit too understeery along with quite heavy compared to something like an evo...
I don't know the evo 5/6 in person as I've never driven one, but all the while I was building my car, we also built a 93 impreza wagon for my buddy, (v8sti full swap into fully stripped chassis), the car ended up 2700lbs, 280 hp, 300lb torque out the the 2 liter, then all sti suspension, trans, dccd and all the such...
so that car as of now is rediculous to drive, tail happy with the diff off, very close ratio 6 speed, stops on a dime with the sti brakes, and I've had my fair share of wayyyy too much fun in the car...
but really, (if that compares to the evo in any way----my kindof relation),
I would still rather have my car....its not yet as fast, but a little gt turbo and a bit of tuning...
it doesn't handle as good, but a fatty rear sway bar and a little homegrown stasis center diff treatment, and I've got a car that loves to turn with throttle in the middle of turn,
and I've already got 996 calipers with s8 rotors so I stop all the same it feels like,
its a toughie but I'd rather have built my car rather than that one,
but it sure is good to have built another car and be able to enjoy her too
i have had all these evo 5,impreza sti,dc5 integra, sierra cossy escort cossy...the s2 is the better car hands down, reliability on imprezas is poor, service costs of evo terrible and for the cossy, that has the worst engine of them all..it needs a rebuid every 5000 miles if driven hard and allways start smoking on gear changes and cold starts...sure the evos handle well as they are light and have been built with corners in mind, the honda is the daddy for me,iwould change my s2 for another tommorow, but the integra is more than twice the price with NO luxury at all...i had to get rid after 6 months as my wife would not get in it...best sticking with the s2 imo
the first, thanks you vey much for all the coments about this thread
second, after read all,and thinked a lot about all,i will continue with my S2 because its a great car¡¡ very strong and reliable engine + i meet "him" all,and runs fantastic+ its LHD hehe.
