    My Polo on vacation...

To help a mate out I've leant him the Olop GT for a few weeks whilst he builds an engine for his E30 318is 2.1. He's so impressed with it he wants one now! 40mpg+ at 85 on the motorway and plenty of zip around town to keep those Londoners at bay. Anyway, I opened up my emails today and there was a little present for me, a folder of pics of my Olop in that London I thought they were pretty good so here's a couple for fun!

They are a nice wee old school car alright... I've been keeping a lookout for one as well - prolly cheaper to run than an 80TDi as a daily with that sort of gas mileage and has some zip when you need it. Anything special I should be looking for one viewing one ?

Battery tray on mine is the oinly rust spot and it's knackered but I didn't spot it when I bought it. Fuel tank and filler neck are one piece and rust at the join and then leak. Other than that they're cheap to run, repair and modify, the engines are bullet proof but teh injection is a little over complicated so mine doesn't idle properly yet, the lambda is shot, that 40+mpg was with it dosconnected!

Mods wise, a 1.4 8v slips straight in, combine that with a cam, chip, home ported head, a Golf AFM and a tubular exhaust manifold and you're looking at 95-100bhp in 800kg, same as a 106 Rallye without the Frenchness and expense. Mines getting lowered 40mm on some FKs I got for £30 and has already ahd the 14" steelies put on it with 195/45R14 tyres . Looking forward to getting it to the 'ring next year!

'without the Frenchness' - wonderfully politically incorrect - made me chuckle here

100bhp in something that size/weight would be good runabout fun - and none of the chavness of a Pug, Shitroen, Nova/Corsa or pocket rice racer !

They are lovely cars, comfortable to drive and easy to maintain, I was after one but ended up with the ford.... might still defect back tho.

He could have said "without the garlic" or "onions" but I guess not everyone's as outspoken as me
