Main beam playing up.

Main beam stalk starting to play up.
Main beam will not come on, unless stalk is FIRMLY pushed forward, and when pulling stalk towards me to flash lights, I'm getting nothing at all.
Is this a well known problem on a 14 year old RS2?
Any advice on what to do to sort it would be appreciated.

not a weeeell known,but has happened before.
take the stalk off by removing the top plastic cover,and take the plug out.Then use some good connector cleaner,one that doesnt have any oil in(yuck) and spray everything there.It might do the trick!
it did on mine and hasnt have a problem since

My 80 TDi used to do this.. I have to admit that I sold it before I fixed it!

I think it's fairly common for the switches to fail. I just had to get another one for my S4. There are usually some on ebay and the same part can be found on several different Audis so shouldn't be too hard to find.

As Vasilis says, It will just need a clean. Dust build up.

I've taken top cover off, and removed bloody big plug.
Would of been easier to shift with lower cover removed, but looks like steering wheel needs to be removed???
Can anyone give me a product name for cleaning connectors, something I can pick up from Halfords. Is it just a case of spraying liberally over connectors? What about spraying into plug?

sprey both the plug and the connector.
I had once bought a nice sprey contact cleaner which was good cause it quickly evaported.Then i found one that had oil in and i dont recommend it.I bet if you look at halfords or the net,you will find something.Anything without any oil in will be fine.

Well I gave it a good spray, put it all back together, no joy.
I reckon the fault lies in the stalk.
A dodgy switch has been mentioned, any other suggestions chaps??

My old 16v did this. you need to take the stalk assembly OFF the steering column and then take it apart and just clean up all the contacts.

To do this, you need to take off the steering wheel, then take off the stalk assembly with the 2 plastic halves of the cover by undoing the big jubilee clip style screw thingy inside the cover. You can get to it by putting a screwdriver in the big hole underneath. Very easy takes about 10 mins.
