Mine joyous rant, join thee in bretheren!

I hate having all this enviromental rubbish rammed down my throat by smug idiots with nice sensible cars that have better emissions. So blinded are these so called eco-friendly people by the utter chuff that they've been told by such trustworthy people as "The Government" and the "Daily Mail" that they seem to be unable to understand 2 things, one is simple maths and the other is simple logic...

Simple Maths:- (this relates to people selling their cars due to new tax laws)

Why are people selling a car worth £10k, depreciating at <£2k a year to buy a new eco car at £25k that depreciates at £4k a year to save £100 a year thus the depreciation on a new car easily outweighs the £100-£200 more a year in road tax. Thus saving you a whopping -£2k, plus interest. Pathetic & short sighted... simple maths really.

Simple Logic:- (this relates to people giving me jip about my car being a 'gas guzzler')

I think that all the focus on buying new more efficient cars is disgusting. Building a new car from mud and oil must be more damaging than the puny emissions of a secondhand car that has been correctly maintained and passes the MOT with flying colours. I think that the goverment should be focussing on encouraging the purchasing of secondhand cars and making the MOT more stringent to ensure that all cars are correctly maintained but they never will because they don't make money from it. Environmental concerns my big ginger hairy ***!

My S2 has had 7 owners so that's 7 cars that have not been built from scratch... with that in mind it doesn't really matter what comes out the exhaust and let's face it, it'll never be flowers and bunny rabbits...

    I enjoyed that

    I100% agree with you!

The environmental cause has long since passed logic and common sense by, and is now hysterical doom mongering and taxation.

I have been saying exactly the above for bloody years.

Can anyone work it out for themselves, can they bolllocs!

I couldn't agree more!!! The impact road vehicles have upon the environment is tiny if not negligible compared to say air travel or industry in China and other developing country's.
As far I can see the currant Hysteria about climate change and all things green is just a marketing ploy to make people feel guilty about their life styles and offer some sort of kudos to those who make their cloths out of bark.

Yes!! It's one of my favourite episodes, the breathing in of their own farts has the eco mentalist down to a T.

The town gets engulfed in smug (not smog) and they all get Hybrid smugness that leads to an inolerance of other drivers.

A quite interesting piece of research (the reports are publically downloadable from here - go for the Dust PDF Version) shows some interesting results, including:
                • The hybrid cars are not the least polluting vehicles over a vehicle lifetime
                • A number of the hybrids are selling better than others because they look different (and are bought by people who feel a need to be seen to be doing something)
Personally I have a dag-dag for daily driving, and enjoy the S2 at weekends (ok, and occasionally during the week). I did the maths and it's cheaper to run the S2 and the dag-dag than just the S2. Ok, it would be even cheaper to just run the dag-dag, but that's not the point. If anything the dag-dag makes me appreciate the S2 even more. As it happens, I'm saving running emissions because the dag-dag doesn't have the George Best thirst of the S2... but the environment wasn't top of the things I was considering when buying either car.

                Ck.
Shocked, exhausted, hosed, bushed, dumped, chipped, mounted, filtered, gauged, packed, intermittantly wiped and braked. I mean broken. Now, about the car...

My Polo GT does 40mpg, 0-60 in 9 seconds and will top 100, it's damned good fun, practical and pretty cute too. Otehr cars like the original ZetecS Fiesta are really good on fuel too but if it's not <1549cc you're going to have to pay a whopping £65 more in tax

I am not surprized by that information. Personally, I call it the Toyota Pious. I bought my wife a Toyota Yaris for around town driving (at the occasional highway trip). I am sure it is better overall than the the Pious, er, Prious, er..

Yeah, those Yarises run on air, my stepmum has one. My Dad always refers to it as nippy I have to admit that I now refer to my Polo GT as nippy too. Needs a 1.4 and 100bhp and then it really would be
