My policy with the RAC covers me not the car so it doesn't matter what vehicle I am in (or even if I own it). Costs around £120 per year but that is a joint membership for myself and Carly. IIRC single membership was around £80-90. They do both types of cover (personal or vehicle).

For info, on-line discounted prices as follows:

Standard Roadside assistance for any car in which im driving or passenger - with the addition of Nationwide recovery (takes you, passengers & car home)

          AA - £73.12 per year
          RAC - £71.25 per year
Green Flag - couldn't be frigged to fill their long winded form in!

Or even better if you shop at Tesco, you can get RAC Joint cover as driver / passenger in any vehicle for ~£36 worth of clubcard vouchers.

            Bargain.

Just a heads up chaps, if anyone's got a HSBC "plus" account they have just introduced a free (pretty comprehensive)breakdown recovery as part of the benefits.

I've had mine a couple of years and only just found this out today coz just spk with them. For those who haven't got this account, ok -its not actually free, the account itself costs £12.95 a month but it suits me coz of free international travel insurance, pref ISA rate etc etc..

For those who have got this account, give them a call and they'll send you a card!

              Cool!

Make sure you read the small-print though. It excludes cars over 15 years old, just found this one out myself, but the Avant is covered until 2010 Unfortunately my AA membership had just renewed and it cost me £14 to cancel

Have to say, I really was hesitant to pay for a bank account when I signed up but the free ATM withdrawls abroad and free travel insurance (includes winter sports ) has paid for it so far!

                Cheers

Ahh, nice one ross, they were sending full terms etc in the post, never new about the 15year old rule tho. Actually, i wonder how that works, say if you did break down and the car was older than that, would they refuse when you called them up whilst stuck on side of road?? I mean, would they pick up on the the reg plate and suddenly say "sorry sir..not covered?" wonder how that would work...

Yeah, i was the same with the £12.99 crack, altho, like you say, it certainly pays for itself what with travel insurance plus the other benefits..
