    Lotus Elise encounter

Was out tuning the RS2 for E85 the other night when I noticed a low and mean looking type of automobile getting onto the freeway. Some sort of Elise, I have no idea what type, Exige or whatnot. Just rolling at approx 40mph in the slow lane, I see the Lotus pulls out behind my blue wagon, engine roar indicated it was likely intended to demonstrate the crushing overtaking ability of the fine piece of Chapmanish engineering. For some reason, the pedal hits the metal in the blue family wagon, and the proposed power demonstration has turned into a session of smelling the remains of ethanol and air mixed at a too high 13:1 ratio as the sleepy looking smurf-blue wagon catapulted away and made the demonstration of Lotus quickness seem rather bland.
Mighty nice cars, those Elises, though, no buts or ifs about that Annihilates most autos on a twisty course.

Like your style Espen... You should have slowed down, chatted with the guy who owns that car and explained the phenomenon of torque. Maybe whe was too busy remapping his GHD's

I love playing with baby Chapman's too. I had one try and the explain the phenomenon of handling, but I just answered with the combined phenomena of a death wish, skill, 4 wheel drifting and booting it out of the corners :mischeif:

I have to admit, that go-kart was cornered on rails, but when it came out of the corners, it was all mouth and no trousers

Best thing is, when we hit the motorway, I had the aircon on, the radio on and I could hear it due to the phenomena of carpets and sound deadening

      Cheers n

A mate of mine had an Elise and used to bang on about it. I just called him a hairdresser.

Good work, nothing like 2 tons of Audi with a monster engine to dish out a performance reality check!

A mate has a VX220, i.e. A Lotus with a Vauxhall badge... He receives plenty of hairdressing based jokes, mainly from me. Not far off mine in a straight line but I'd not like to play the handling game, silly hat on or not. Only time we've played races was at Donington and it was mildly moist so he tried to crash a few times. Fair play for trying tho, there weren't any other hairdressers there silly enough to try!

Yep, their quickness is based on low weight, so they are very quick up until the point that aerodynamic drag starts to make a serious impact, namely at approx. 80mph and above.

Hehe, for some reason, all sorts of interesting opponents show up when I'm out in one of the slower cars (2.0E 80, etc) Exotics, Porsches, rice cars, etc. However, when out in the RS2, they are usually nowhere to be seen, but on a very rare occasion, they show up. Always fun to provide an element of surprise to those who think that a sedate looking family wagon will be easy prey, especially fun to surprise those sportbike riders who think they can smoke anything with a flick of the wrist

Even in the S2 you can surprise some motorbikes... I've been on the motorway a few times - in the outside lane waiting for slower stuff to move over while some **** on a sports bike rides on my exhaust waiting for me to move my aging anonymous looking green Audi out of their way... I nail it in 4th and the bikes generally get smaller in the mirror - unless its some properly mental fast thing. Bikes don't do torque very well, but its sheer power to weight advantage on the big machines which can't be matched unless you have HUGE bhp on an S2/RS2 to give them a shock.
