    s2 vs volvo t5

i have just bought a volvo t5 ex police car,not to replace the s2,but cos it was cheap and has a very nice sounding 5 pot...after driving it 200 miles on the return journey it feels a lot faster than my current s2 runnung approx 280 bhp...can anyone confirm the hp of the t5,and do the police chip them or remap the ecu?
it is a very good drive, but much can be said for the boat like handling,2wd and soggy suspension together with a lot of grunt from the 20valve 5 potter makes for some heart in the mouth cornering...

well being it a 2wd it can seem faster because of less driveterain losses.4wd drive is great for launch, but has more losses than a 2wd.other than that the weight must be a role as well. And usually police cars may be tweaked as well

Police car hve a few mods but they never admit it hen you tlk to them? There is a place in Bradford that deals with all the traffic polices cars.

Watch the wiring on the car as i've heard of them been a bit dodgy after they rip all the cop stuff out.

I think they have a bigger turbo as standard cuse you can get roughly 300bhp+ from a remap, but standard bhp is about 230ish+ i think.

I think the 850 2.5 T5 had 225bhp. I've heard that the police normaly used to tune the T5.

I have a friend who has a remapped, 3" down pipe T5 to just over 300bhp, it was only just quicker than the S2. Nice car, both sounded awesome off the line at the traffic lights!

Check this out for a remap not bad for a standard turbo.

Yeah they do tweek them, but are supposed to put them back to standard after. Mainly the suspension tho. When they came for pdi from volvo they would have all the bit that had beeen changed in the boot. We would then only see them for warranty work. Great fun roadtesting tho! Watch everyone slow down when they saw you coming.
The master tech from our garage worked in london and told us a story where one guy took one out on roadtest without the bag on the lights, and seen a car screaming down the road so he took chase. When he caught up they stuck a sign out the window telling him they were police in an unmarked car! He didnt roadtest them again!
Was a '93 3B, Dont ask now tho......

Belgian highway pursuit police used to use T5's. Saw one up close one day at a tuners shop and it had a "HUGE" turbo on it and I was told it could hit 300km/h... Don't know if that was actually true but seemed credible...

                Now they use S4 V8's...

We had an old 850 T5 on the Scumball and that was running 260 odd BHP on the rollers.. definitely tweaked. Wasn't a match for the S2 on the road though, and I had a shedload of tackle on board too. S2 definitely quicker, but it certainly doesn't feel fast.

i had a v70 t5 few years ago, fast once it got going but no traction compared to the quattro. I even thought about putting one of the engines into a coupe quattro.
Mine was e x police fire arms car, no mods as i was aware, police garages only take the stickers off when they go to auction, mine still had the strobe kits hidden under the seats-they re going on my breakdown truck!
                      Anyone tried the 4x4 version?

The Police Volvo's are standard, I know a few traffic cops. The main reason the police had them was Volvo gave them support up to 100k and the officers were gutted when half of them were replaced as they reached end of life.

They are ordered as "Police spec" straight from the factory though aren't they? So they could be a bit warmer than the standard car. Plus I know many of them had a larger brake kit fitted as standard.

cool bug!or at least the engine anyway....gunna try and find the guy who built it,says south yorkshire on his signiture so not too far away....as for the t5,just been out for a spin and its defo not 225 bhp, feels more like 300 or so...turn the traction button off and it spins the fronts in 2nd and 3rd no problem.. done some point to point acceleration tests and its pulling about the same speed as the s2,just seems to pick up a little quicker due to the 2wd.....i aint gunna keep it long as its cornering is shocking and uses more juice than the s2...
