    Dyno Plots

Just for some fun () I am attaching performance plots of recent set-ups of my engine.
One is a rolling road graph and the other direct input from a dyno.

Please have a look and compare them and say which plot is better or if they are the same.

TO make matters easier, I would like to actually put the graphs into the post and have a poll thingy set-up, but have no idea how to do that - can anyone help?

So graph #2 is from an engine dyno?
If so, it seems that approx 415 at the wheels equals approx 540hp at the flywheel, approx 24% drivetrain loss.
The 525 estimate form the rolling road is a little low, but not bad (21% loss)

      Hi thanks for your reply.
It seems I have not made myself clear enough here, so apologies there.
These plots are using two different turbo's.
I would like peoples comments comparing the graphs which turbo has the best performance in their opinion. I will tell you which turbo is which later
      Do you think

      a) Dyno 1 is better

      b) Dyno 2 is better

      c) almost identical

      Many thanks.

        Chris,

Hi hope your well, graph 1 looks more to my liking, graph 2 looks a bit laggy to me though not sure if im comparing wheel with wheel power if you know what i mean.

        Darren.

          Thanks for your thoughts Darren.

Another important thing I failed to mention, on Dyno 1, the revs at the bottom are bang on a verticle axis line whereas on the graph for Dyno 2, the revs are in the middle between two axis lines (if you know what I mean?).
          Any other takers?

Dyno 2 is far better, earlier boost and same bhp output, win - win

spools at least 500rpm earlier and that's a huge difference

Ditto that, though still comes in later than I would like personally. Would be happy to sacrifice a few BHP to get the power coming in another 500rpm earlier unless its a track car only!

Chris, you've got to go for a turbo that produces more useable torque and forget the huge power figures that you were tempted by previously and then hated the way the car drove. Dyno 2 is better for this, perhaps even then you want something a little less laggy...

Definelty dyno 2. what turbo/setup was being used for each of these?

Thanks for your responses. To be honest, I was actually being a bit mischievous here.
As has been pointed out, both of the plots show the car to be quite laggy. However, dyno 2 was without doubt better than dyno 1 - the torque comes in strong considerably earlier and then stays steady.

                      Dyno 1 is using GT35/40R
                      Dyno 2 is using T61

Why would I have asked for the GT35 hybrid to improve low down pull if what I already had was considerably better, especially with the costs involved?
Quite simply the answer is I wouldn't and I didn't!
No idea how long this will take to sort out, but it will be
                      Cheers
                      Chris

PS. Car off road until new year and then another new turbo to be tried
But I will get her right this time

Nope.... Will be trying couple of different turbos though, to see which works best.
Ashford Motorsport are fitting their own engine dyno, so swapping things around once on the dyno will not be too much of a big deal and can compare things properly. Most likely a T04 or maybe the Comp 355 Repo is suggesting but journal bearing as apparently less likely to have any surge.
The hope is to be up and away between 2500 - 2800rpm. Would be well happy with that.
Repo is also supplying a new Exhaust Manifold (as easy to make new one as to repair all cracks in old one)together with a turbo support, and more importantly, a proper Inlet Manifold (one with internals properly worked out). Also going for slightly different IC. All these things will work together to reduce that dreaded lag I hated so much and provide loads of low down torque to keep a smile on my face.
If all works, one thing I will do whatever happens - LEAVE THE THING ALONE!

                            Cheers

I've tested two 2.2's with GT35R (35/40) and both had full boost before 4000. They spooled so fast that surge became a problem at about 1,6-1,7bar so strange that yours need a 1000rpm's extra

                              The T61 plot looks good for a 2.2. P-trim with .82 AR?
Used a a T61 P-trim 0.96 AR on my 2.5 earlier and that setup spooled about the same as yours. A real kick at 4000
