    What would you do?

As some of you may know, I've been battling for a long time to get my S2 Avant back to its former glory. Everytime I seem to have sorted something, another problem crops up. I went out again in it this evening and it brought a huge smile to my face, for a while, I forgot about the rotten front wing, the tired paintwork, the ABS light and anything else that was wrong, and simply enjoyed it.

Now, car wise, I've always been on the look out for something a little bit special, you could call me a "car slag" if you like, a look at my signature proves that.

So, I'm after a little bit of a guide here. My missus wants us to get our own place, but thats in at least 2-3 years by my reckoning. So a deposit on a house is looming on the horizon, but not right now.

Or.....continue my uphill struggle and eventually have a very nice S2 Avant which has its own special bit of history.

Or.....sell the S2 and buy something else just as bizarre. Like an early S8 or a Passat W8?

    What do you think?

If you're buying a house, now (i.e. in the next 12 months) is the time to do it mate. House prices are at a lull and you could make a killing my playing your cards right. The S2 will never appreciate, so you could buy another one in 2 years time for similar money no doubt.

If I were in your position I'd be putting a stopper on everything you can and buying a place in the next year or so. Worry about nice cars afterwards.

    Just my advice!

Best thing to do is - imo sort the car out, admitted you could go after something else but atm you've already got the car and thats the main thing, you know whats been happening to it for the last couple of years (afaik) where as with some other cars you might look at/buy you could be letting yourself in for more problems.

If my missus was working, we would be, unfortunately she's still in college full time and I cant afford it all on my own. House prices still need to fall even further before I can afford to it myself. I was thinking, have what sort of car I want, while I still can, before the commitments of a house and everything else.

Pete, I could be opening a whole can of worms by going for something else, better the devil you know than the one you dont I guess.

UrS6's are nice, I sometimes wish I'd gone for a saloon one instead of my Avant, but hey-ho.

I'm in the same situation at the moment, my car is the same you think you've got it sorted and bam there's something else! But you have to remember it's an oldish car so a lot of this be will fail. I had my head gasket done not long ago cost a lot bit now the heater has stopped working? Hopefully just the matrix but who knows?

Ben is right about the house market but that has to be a joint effort! I'm 24 now but I think that I'll give it a few years. It was like this a few years ago, everybody telling me to buy a house now cause you will never be able to afford one if not. But just look at the market it will be at least two years before it gets any better. Plus they are wanting at least 10% deposit.

All in all it's upto you what you want buddy. Your only young once so enjoy it, that's why I'm still at home and enjoying it!

            Good luck

            P.a I have a girlfriend of 5 years. LOL

You're only just getting started Lee, I've been with my missus for near on 8 years, admittedly on and off. School romance an all that

I think if the housing market seriously dropped off sometime soon, I'd be tempted to go for somewhere, but I dont see it happening any time soon.

                  Hi
If I was you I would wait a bit on the house because the house prices are still too high, ( well my excuse anyway).I only live down the road from you and we know how much the house prices have shot up, but the wages around have not. FIX the S2, and if you need a garage and code reading stuff you can use it FOC and the tools , it helps.

anyway good luck with your choice

My job is house building and believe me they have dropped like you would not believe. I have to sell over 50 a week just to get the cash back you would not believe the difference in value achieved today as opposed to this time last year when we were selling 100 a week. A lot less for a lot less hurts.

If they do drop further (and who knows in these crazy times!!) there will be no house builders around to build them. When the credit crunch easies and it will the price of houses will go mad like never before the old supply and demand scenario!!

Love them or hate them we are simply not building enough to feed the population growth.

Fortunately they will never go out of fashion..
