    VOSA Traffic Enforcement.

Mere rent-a-cops, or heavy hitters with the capability of rape and pillage of us motorists?

I thought they only stayed on major motorways but there was one sat in the layby of my local bypass this morning. There's a VOSA HGV testing station about 3 miles from where I seen it, but I've never seen them leave the yard.

Guys i've warned the forum about VOSA testing, their powers are unbelievable now they don't need a police presence to conduct tests due a change a while back.

Unless you don't have an MOT then I would have thought you should be fine though?

Only experience I've ever had with them was when the Rangie broke down on the M69/A5 roundabout on the way to work. 2.5 tonnes stuck in the middle of a roundabout with no electrics and therefore no hazard lights in rush hour traffic and two different softroaders driven by the traffic wombles drove past without even batting an eyelid.

Whereas if you stop on the motorway you'll be surrounded by them making sure you are ok. From what I can tell they are wannabe traffic cops.

Don't worry about it. AFAIK they can't do anything about "Excess Speed"

MOT is a test that proves your car is road worthy at that point in time...............

VOSA check your car then and there

I thought that, but I am aware that they are in direct contact with the police and can call them in with your registration plate if they you're driving like a tool. They cant do anything directly but can summon the people who can pretty sharpish.

My local VOSA VE does the stop checks and they can issue prohibitions on the road side, mainly they check vehicles at Puddletown,Ashley Heath and down Poole docks getting all the foreign lorries.

i don't see the worry myself.....surely if the car is not roadworthy when tested on the spot, then you get a certain time allocated to resolve the issue?

The plan has been for some time, to get vehicles with defects to be repaired and for a certificate from a registered MoT station to prove such repairs have been carried out ...I have it on fairly reliable understanding that this rule will include faulty lighting.

They where checking all sorts of vehicles at Asda patchway (cribbs causeway) in bristol on Friday.
I sat watching them, tyres, lights, horn, washers/wipers, number plates and a quick glance underneath.
If you car is roadworthy you ain't got a problem.

Oh and if you have a dagdag HM customs where on hand to dip the tank, 2 pikey flat back transits got impounded.

                          cheers

I've had the misfortune of being done twice by the VOSA muppets! Both times in my work van. They regularly wait at the Tamar Bridge on the Devon/Cornwall border and take vans and lorries to the HGV test centre. Never seen them pull any cars!

The first time I was 3% overweight. I was allowed to finish my journey as it wasn't far but when I returned home I had to write an apologetic letter explaining the reason for being overweight and ensuring them that it wouldn't happen again. As it was a first offence I got away with a slap on the wrist!

The second incident was only a month or two ago. I was well under weight this time but the smarmy arrogant jobsworth, (who looked like he'd just finished his training so thought he must be the big man himself) took it upon himself to pretty much do a complete MOT on the van!! Everything was fine until the brake test when the handbrake failed the efficiency test by 1%, YES 1 B@STARD PERCENT!!! One might expect a little leniency here, or even a "please get that looked at sir" kind of thing but no. I recieved a full on prohibition notice which only allowed me to drive the van home and to an MOT test centre where it had to undergo a complete MOT inspection. What annoyed me the most was that I knew I had a breakfast bap waiting for me on site and that it was getting colder with every passing minute!

£50 and several days without the use of my van later, the van passed the MOT with only a small cable adjustment. The certificate then had to be produced at the local Police station (which only opens 10am til 2pm and has an hour for lunch) where the prohibition order was finally removed allowing me to fully return to my work almost a week after the original incident.

                              T W A T S !!!!!!!!!
'93 S4 Avant now back on the road complete with new shiny go faster bits.
