    porsche 924

I know some one how is selling a 2litre injection one of these and im thinking of buying it. its sub cheap but needs a front window and has had a bad re-spray in british racing green.

is there any spots to look out for on the shell that might be bad is what i thinking, i know not a porsche forum but thought people might know on here.

    now to the audi stuff.
the 924 was a project for audi by porsche that was being developed the same time as quattro, we all know which became audis new coupe, as for the 924 it uses audi/vw parts such as the bellhouseing and i was thinking of building my self a rs2 spec 20v I5 porsche 924 over next few years

    I owned a 924 many years ago.

    Bad points

Body isn't galvanised so can and will rot
2 litre engine was robust but powerless. Car wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding
    Parts are expensive

    Good points

    None!

Yes, the gearbox was rear mounted but the whole layout, suspension (torsion rear springs) and rear wheel drive is very different to Audi.

944 is a much better car, owned one of those as well. If you must, buy a 944 turbo and enjoy it!

924 is a "bitsa", mk1 golf front suspension and headlights, beetle(!!) irs rear susp, polo/mk1 golf/beetle switchgear, VW LT van engine, audi transaxle (getrag dog leg on 924 Turbo)
A lot of turbo parts are what they fitted to the 944s, 5 bolt hubs/rear discs etc..

The I5 may fit, but a better bet is my own personal plan(unfullfilled due to real life getting in the way!!!) Audi A4 1.8t engine & box,968 plastic fuel tank(allows audi 6 speed to be fitted) or even the V6tt S4 motor!! but to convert to 4wd would be a major task!!!...... but a fun one!!!

Points to watch out for- front wings, front valance, inner and outer sills, battery tray and fuel tanks rot, fuel pump relays pack up, headlight switches burn out(mk1 golf part) sunroof and rear hatch seals shrink and let water in, elec window motors seize (easy fix-strip down & regrease).

Check this site for better idea tips:

944 better but still gash, unless your going to do some serious suspension upgrades then it will handle like a mattress
968 was a little better, work on them day in day out to be honest better off with an audi, much more reliable and the body work is a big issue on the older porkers

each to there own at the end of the day, but not a big fan of the old stuff, unless its a 911 lol
