How apt. It was in the recession of the early 90's that Porsche first established the link with Audi, producing the RS2. At the time Porsche wasn't selling very many cars. I wonder how their car sales are doing at the moment?

Either way, I hope it will be as special a collaboration!

should be interesting, providing when they cut the weight in it they don't go too far as with some of the cars i've seen recently.

take it if that they do your end up getting to drive them soon darren?

Yeah, tbh i think its just a marketing ploy tho, Audi can (and do!) produce these caliber of cars now anyways. They just don't need to team up with Porsche to take it to that next level.

It's all about building something less expensive but still limited edition and hence uber desirable. I'm sure it would sell well. I wonder if it will hold it's value as well as the RS2?

            My guess is no.

Ohh yeah, it would def sell, the order books would be full from day one. whether it would hold prices and be an icon like the RS2...i very much doubt it.

So many performance tools out there now, with many a "ltd edition" model that in fairness (certainly in these times) only command a small premium over the standard RS/GTi type model. Certainly GT3, RS & Turbo porsches have taken a right tumble over the last 6 months, with the new 4 door Panamera to be launched soon, who knows what will happen.

Strange they talked about the RS5 being an estate? As far as I can tell this is a coupe only and I can't see Audi producing a avant bodystyle just for the RS5. A made up load of tosh IMHO!

FWIW - I think a 450bhp RS5 would be a total waste of time - why not have the collaboration go in the direction of something the GT3 approach where things are made significantly lighter and even more performance oriented... Shave 200kg off an R8 or an S5 or something - I don't see any need at all for 4-door version of the A5/S5 - thats just pants... Trouble is in these days of credit crunch that there perhaps isn't the market for superlight sports cars - but by the same token I can't imagine that the world would be queuing up for more debt to drive a Porsche/Audi collaboration of RS5 esque proportions.

I would make a similar shell/length as the RS2 estate, def lighter, still an avant and possibly a 4door salloon. However as im so fond of the old style of looks,i would try to make it look like that even if the a new chassis/shell was used.

also would like it not bigger than the A4.

We have recieved the following bulletin from Audi UK today:

This week's Autocar article about a new Audi RS 2 is pure speculation, and Audi UK urges you to pass this information on to customers.

The article also mentions RS 5 and A7 models. Again, this is pure speculation.

The picture accompanying the article appears to have been computer generated, using elements from various current models in the Audi range in order to illustrate what the magazine thinks any RS 5 might look like.
You can be sure that any future developments will be communicated to the Network promptly, and it is our intention to keep all Centres informed about future model changes long before details appear in the media.

We had a similar bulletin a few months back when Car magazine mentioned the RS5:

On the front cover of this month's issue of Car magazine there is a mocked up image of an 'RS 5'. The 'RS 5' model does not exist - the pictures have been digitally created by Car magazine using the S5 as a basis.
Inside, the magazine has devoted eight pages for a head-to-head battle between Audi and BMW, pitching the 'RS 5' against the "proposed, lightweight M3 CSL".

Any customers mentioning this article should be advised that the Audi shown in Car magazine is purely a rendering based on media speculation.

The RS 4 and RS 6 are a fixed part of quattro GmbH’s strategy. We are examining on a case-by-case basis whether to extend the series to include other model lines.
