New to the S2 Forum and Need some advice!

    Hello All!

I am new to the forum and was hoping to get some advice from some of you.

I have had an intrest in S2'd for years, It started with my love for the old Group B cars and the Audi URQ. I have owned a few audi's in the past, but was seriosly looking into a new project. I planned on putting a 20V Turbo in an 90 Coupe to try and replicate the S2. I live in the North East (PA) and rarely if ever have seen one in person. My question is.

    A) What is an S2 worth in the US, How hard are they to find? I would like to get something that needfed a little TLC.

    B) If I am forced to try and replicate, What motor is the one to have for power, relaibility and what other cars did they come in. Years would help.

    C) Do you here of any for sale on the forum and if so how often?

Any info would be appreciated, I am very serious about this project.

    Thanks Guys

    Chas

A few guys (and girls...) have managed to either replicate an S2 using the 20v or taken the overall spec towards or beyond the Rs2. The S2 was not imported to the US and Canada though i can't actually remember the official reason (emissions???). Basic engine codes to look out for are AAN/ADU/ABY and 3B for the I5 turbo configuration. To be honest all are reliable, some are slightly stronger like the A versions and these also benefit from a non distributor based ignition too. Having said that, 3B's over our side of the pond can run some serious HP too

Good luck and a bit of searching on here should give you all the info you need, along with some peeps in North America to discuss local parts sourcing etc too.

    Cheers

      David,

Thanks for the quick resonse. It is very unfortunate that we are not graced with this car over on this side, slightly more unfortunate for my wife that I have such a desire to own one. Project time!! I will be looking for a 90 Coupe Quattro, and will start from there. I appreciate your information and will be on the forum daily. Once I get something going I will post some pics.

      Thanks Again,

      Charles

        welcome! where are you located?

the easiest thing to do it get yourself a coupe. then choose if u want a AAN or 3b motor. the actual conersion isnt that difficult so its def a realistic goal.

          Jersey90TQ, I can't believe you wrote this?!
cdelorenzo the mechanical work is not that difficult, just very time consuming. It's the electrical and wiring work that is expensive, a POS and incredibly time consuming. You get the electricals wrong and the car will be a nice sculpture in your garage. Make very sure you want to do this and have the financial resources to see it through.
          Good Luck.

Welcome... A nice clean CQ is going to be hard enough to find as a start for this project... But you will not be the 1st. It has been done with 3B and AAN engines - both of which can be found stateside. As stated already - its the wiring which will be daunting to most people... Even if money was no worry and you could just go and buy brand new looms - its no mean feat to integrate that nicely and in one attempt.

Other issues along the way are things the right combinations of gearbox, prop, driveshaft and hubs - depends how authentic to S2 specifics you want to be, but the 01A transmission in the 20VCQ is not as strong as later 01E gearbox. That said its the same one used in 3B so as long as you are going for road use you will probably be OK.
