    blue smoke on startup? :(

This morning i started the audi up after yesterday´s 1000km trip to germany and blue smoke porred out the exhaust for about 10sec, and this got me worried
Changed the oil 1500km ago, and filled it up to top precise, checked it again after this little smoke episode and still @ top, so now is the question:
Do they have a weeknes engine wise?
    Valve seals, pistons, turbo etc??

Hope it´s the turbo as i really cant afford a new engine build at this time

Hmm i would suspect valve guides. Could just be your PCV system needs a clean though.

        check the pcv system first

Previous owner changed the stem seals to then find out it was the pcv

another way to check your pcv is to look for oil residue or marks around the top cyl.head rubber gasket.Usually if pressure builds there,it leaks as it is not meant to hold pressure(boost). When the pcv is blocked, then you have pressure there and the rubber seal starts to moist with oil or leaks slowly.

i had it in mine,PCV was blocked with the flame deflector in there, now i have to replace the rubber seal

It a case of checking all the hoses for cracks, check the flame trap and the valves, cant remember the name of the big valve coming from the sump. cheap and easyish to replace.
Oh the PCV system, is the positve crank case ventilation, recurculates the oils fumes from the sump to burn up. If you look on www.vagcat.com, or ETKA it lists all the hoses and valves.

                    Thanx guys, really helpfull

I have looked everything thrue and there is a catch tank mounted in between the hoses to the pcv that is sopposed to catch the oil that comes along that way, can it be this that makes trouble?

If it disappeared after 10 secs, I would suspect valve stem seals. What mileage has the car done?

Hmm i dont expect it to be the seals, as it has only done it once and on cold engine, nothing when warm or anything, and it was after a 1000km trip.
But anyway i will check it tho, thanx

This happened on mine the other week as well, weather was well frosty so i left it ticking over for a few minutes, came out and seemed to be blue smoke coming out of the zorst. When I drove off up the road tho all was fine (apart from the usual bit of moisture smoke on a freezing day). Wonder if its the same?!

                            Ditto turbo seals.

Stem seals tend to be on warm start and would be noticed in on the spark plugs.

Perfect described as what mine did, but mine stopped after 10sec on idle
