To clarify on the 'cheap runabout' desire - thats just an excuse

Cheap as in - less than 1k to get it on my driveway... Runabout as in something to hack into work in and/or scoot the kids about - I get fecked off with kiddy seats in the Coupe - its just wrong. Gotta be strong / safe / reliable / no frills motor with four doors.

Then the S2 can nestle itself in the garage nicely for lots of tinkering without me stressing about getting it rebuilt to drive for a meeting the next day.

A V6 quatty sedan feels right - built like a tank and nice smooth engine... Not interesting in squeezing more oomf out of it - stupid Hitachi controlled thing.

The rear wing aerial does look wrong though - is that really unusual on these ?
I know there was a factory option with electric aerial on the Sedan at some stage - is that it ?

Could be a really good handling thing - all year round with RS2 suspenders. I could suffer the RS6 replicas on this car with a hub conversion and maybe even S2 bumpers - it would look sweet... Pity its red, but hey. See how I've upgraded this thing in my head already - cheap runabout - as if .........

Spose I'd better go look at the darn thing... Tell the owner its a bag o kack and offer him a pony to take it off his hands

I've seen a piccie of a saloon with RS6 wheels and it looks OK. Actually if you do the hubs then Avus would be period as well.
Both the 1990 80 Sport and the 1993 2.8 we have had the rear screen ariel - people have moaned about them, poor reception etc but I have to say we never had a problem in the Thames Valley area nor in Norfolk ( lot less transmitters there! ). I reckon it spoils the lines !

just found the link for the car, quite a nice one from the pictures.

bonus that it already has the strut brace bar on it, save having one fitted if you ever decided for the full on s2 sedan.

wheel's don't look too bad and the plate makes it seem newer than what it is, only thing i'd want to change straight away is the front bumper, never been a big fan of the speedboat standard one.

Car looks nice, engine & bay almost idential to mine (minus the plastic cover for battery - gotta be a bargaining tool!). Must say tho, that front bumber does look gash.

Obviously not as cheap to run as say a 1.0l Fiesta but for that sort of monies, depending on seeing it in the flesh, im sure it would be a reliable hack with plenty of years left in it, you hardly need to rev it at all just to donkey around. You could even dry your pants on that ariel!

With big engined cars not selling at the mo, im sure a deal could def be had if owner needed to get shot.

and i've heard of a few with high miles, cullam3n's got up to 230+ and the engine is still running in his but he's just picked up a 90k one from me (that was a 2.8v6 tho) engines and parts are easy to come by as well.

The heads can start to leak oil but other than that it should be OK. Take it for a long run and then check as it looks like the vendor has power washed the engine bay.

I also noticed the missing battery cover. The brace bar is stock on a 2.8 V6 and if it was a coupe it would have an S2 bumper rather than that nasty thing.

Still, I like the 'offer him a pony to take it off his hands' suggestion.

Denied... I tried to call the guy three times last week at different times and it went to voicemail everytime. I left a msg but no reply. Today I saw the advert had changed and tried again... Rings onto voicemail again and so I figure the guy mustn't be able to use mobile at work or something. So I txt'd and politely asked for a good time to call - a txt returns immediately to say the car had been sold. ****** - it wasn't meant to be then - least not for me anyway - looks very tidy in those pics !
