I've just coughed up a wadge for more docs on these MPI engines - 7A, AAH amongst some other things like the TDI donkeys that are of more general interest these days - the info won't be in print forever so I bit the bullet - an expensive bullet - including another 125 Euro worth of schematics which will complete my set for the B3/B4 family... Most of which is now online for the S2/RS2 elements and I hope to finish that hugely exciting project this year.

Gets expensive collecting all this factory info, but I get frustrated searching on schlonky websites for halfassed explanations of things that aren't in my immediate span of knowledge or experience. Hard to help people with probs when you can't reach over to a trusted reference document, and add some valuable help when I can.

It is pin C14 on the ECU you need for the blink code signal. I fitted it to my car and it worked fine.

There is a guide to fitting it here

Cool - good man... Knew there had to be a way.

C14 is not shown on the UK schematics. Be interesting to see if it shows in the factory training info I ordered.

Does the V6 ECU need to be coded in California/EGR mode for this to work or not ?

Just read that Audifans thread... some very 'familiar' photos in here - not all credited to me - but thats great... I'm glad my efforts on this OBD/MIL stuff on the S2/RS2 helped the V6 boys find a solution.

@Gunman - let me know if need helping hooking that up on your car. Then you can get blink codes at least... Unless you get VAGCOM sorted 1st.

No, it just needed the wire from C14 and it worked. It was very simple. I had the early ECU but I assume it would be the same with any of them.

Back to the subject of blink codes and why this pup doesn't seem to wanna do OBD - and the comments about both pins on the white OBD plug being ~12V on that V6 I did some quick tests on my S2.

With ignition ON I get 11.5V on the K wire and 9.5V on the L wire.

Check they are wired correctly... There should be a sticker on the fusebox indicating how the pins line up... This changed in 08.92 so one rule aint same for everyone.

the 2 pins pins are wired to the 2 posts beside it, which in itself doesnt seem right to me.

I've one of these sensors (well 2 actually) winging its way to me as I type so hopefully life will be restored at the weekend. I'll get a better chance to look at it in daylight as it's freezing and damp out there in the evenings

got a new cam sensor in the post yesterday (and a second hand one this morning actually), went out tried with the old one on and dead, swapped over and up she fired. Here's hoping it stays that way, will take it for a drive later and test it out but fingers crossed she's back in business. Just a few other minor things to sort out, like getting some kinda diagnostics working for one!

cheers for all the advice guys.

Just did about 15 miles n it and it's driving lovely, the flat spot seems to have gone as does the hunting (still does a wee bit when first started).

Next on the list is the whine from the rear end, I suspect the diff, but do the prop bearings give bother and could it cause this?

I've been offered a rear diff for £75 so if needs be I'll get that, maybe try an oil service first tho.

Looks mighty there... except I'd bin those wheels - they don't add anything IMHO. I preferred the other wheels.

Well, I tried to put the 10 spokes back on but couldnt budge the rear wheel nuts. My impact wrench just bounces on it so I will stop in at a tyre plce and see if they can loosen them for me. I had a set of 15" ronals off my old 80 and I liked them but need a refurb, might go down that road, I'm led to beleive the Bortets would be worth a few £££ so that might help.

I took your advice Paul and swapped back tot he other wheels and I think it handles a bit better too. I still cnat get the diagnostics woring tho, I tried the LED methot but it just lights up solid. The car is SERIOUSLY thirst and just isnt running 1005 but I'm working blind here trying to find the fault, could be MAF or oxygen sensors but why would the diagnostics not work?
