    Anyone live near Twickenham?

    I need a favour,
Having found and fettled an S2 Avant for a long time friend:
I am now without the full payment for the work completed. He has had the car for three months and has only paid under a third of what he owes me. I know I should have gotten the money before letting him have the car BUT, I didn't think a mate of over fifteen years was going to do this to me!
After this load of grief he will have to find some new friends!
I have spoken to him loads about this and now he ignores my calls.

I thought a small note under the wiper with maybe "pay your invoice for the work done to this car or further action will be taken" might just make him realise I have contacts in his area.
Any suggestions of better ways of sorting this out will be much appreciated.

    Pain in the ***!

    Rob

Sometimes these things backfire and you end up getting treated like a criminal!
Just put the matter onto a legal basis:

If that the guy has not paid for it and you could get access to the car for a brief few moments remove the ecu from it, at least then it will be harder for him to move it somewhere you don't have access to or know about.

problem is that its in his name so anything that is done to the car its still classed as his, could reposess it and have it hidden in storage till he pays up as long as there is no proof you've got anything to do with it.

Twickenham is up near where gary used to live, think newsh might live around that area iirc. I only go up to the m25 turn off and go round towards the a1 otherwise i'd have popped down.

Boys - I'd be careful how you proceed on this one... Surely the right thing to do is pursue matters through the correct channels... Maybe the guy is just unable to pay and is too embarrassed to admit it. When business and friends goes wrong it can be pretty unpleasant...

Sticking a note under his wiper isn't gonna help - if anything it will freak the guy and he'll the car put into storage or something.

Immobilising the car by removing its ECU is just a daft idea... wouldn't it be easier to just buy a wheel clamp and fit it to where the car is parked overnight ?
I dunno where you stand on legal grounds there - its not like you are damaging his property or removing anything from the car. Doing this would certainly have him return a phone call - then he'll have to pay a portion of moneys owed before the car is unclamped - and he agrees a schedule of remaining payments... WHich if he misses gets the car clamped again.

Is it illegal to prevent someone from using their car in this way... Is it any worse than legally parking other cars ridiculously close to block a target in ?

I'd hazard a guess that you'd be breaking the law if you didn't give fair warning that you intended to clamp the car. Sorry to see that this has happened though, it does make you wonder who the real friends are sometimes.

Yeah - don't take my off the cuff suggestion as some kind of great idea... I've seen it done on TV where companies have had bailiffs come in to reclaim bad debt - they clamp the car to force a payment. All legal and above board when using legit bailiffs - which you pay for the pleasure of, but better that than write off a large debt.

                    Cheers fellas,
                    Good advise as always!

I will have a think on which way to go.

I know the parts are still mine, last resort will be a trip down to remove them!

                        Write a letter to him.
Keep it to the point. No aggro. Give him a deadline for payment, and explain to him the course of action you will take if monies are not received on given date.
                        THREATEN LEGAL ACTION.

You've got a fair point, with the idea of removing parts supplyed.
                        Make that your second option.

Bad enough when somebody won't pay up, but a mate! Just not cricket

I've got a feeling Rob you might be getting fed up of legal this and legal that

I live a couple of miles from Twickenham and have only seen one S2 Avant around here, I think it was a green L reg one.

Anyway, I hope you manage to get everything sorted!
