    Oil Cooler Warning

I was just about to set off in the RS2 back to the UK on Friday. I started the car and went in to get a coffee, when I came back I noticed a small patch of oil so I switched the car off. I couldn't see anything so I dropped the undertray off; still nothing. Anyway started her up an low and behold a small jet of oil was spurting from the oil cooler! The oil cooler had actually corroded through yet it still looked fine, I had checked it only a few weeks ago whilst I was under there. So please all check your coolers because if mine had let go at eighty then the resulting explosion would have been felt on the moon and if it wasn't my tears would have flooded Western Europe!
You might leave the S2 fold every so often - but you'll always come back!

Lucky escape there. At 13+ years old these things will corrode unfortunately. Good excuse to get a Mocal in there or something.

What an unbelievable co-incidence!!!! Mine went yesterday.

I had just re-assembled the rocker box on mine having replaced the gasket as GT500 had seen a small leak when I first purchased the car. (As it happens, it was leaking because previously someone had overtightened one of the bolts and stripped the thread in the head. ) One helicoil later and it was all back together again. Phew!

Anyway, I decided to take it out for a run around to make sure eveything was ok, brought it back home and parked it up for the night. Went into the garage yesterday morning to a black pool under the car.

Assuming I'd dislodged something, I checked the oil level topped it up and drove a short distance to my mates garage (very gingerly!!!).

Removed the undertray to a shower of oil and a blathered oil cooler. Managed to get the oil cooler off and successfully remove the cowl. Ordered a replacement today which should arrive tomorrow.

Once again, a lucky escape I think.
