IIRC, SMS got the job of squeezing the I5 20v Turbo into the Type 89 Coupe during development, I seem to remember reading Audi palmed this off to them, as they themselves were busy with the development of the Audi V8.
They offered a limited edition S2. A company similar to MTM in being in close relations with Audi.

^^^ - yes to what Jas said... Twas indeed SMS that got the gig for shoehorning the I5 turbo into that chassis... Apparently it was specifically NOT on the requirements list when the Typ 89 / B3 chassis was originally conceived. Easy to see why access to so many things is troublesome.
