    Looking for fuel line pics

Anybody got pics of an ABY engine bay? I'm interested in the layout of the fuel lines around the brake reservoir.

    Thanks,

    Mark.

As you can see some butcher has re-routed the fuel lines. I suspect when they changed the clutch they let the engine drop and broke all the mounts attaching the fuel rail to the strut brace

The bit i cant figure out it is around the master cylinder, its a total mess. They were both rubbing against in the intake pipe where the length of rubber hose has been stuck on.

Can anybody show me what they are supposed to look like?

    Cheers,

    Mark.

If you look in the top right where the manifold water rail is lying against the brake servo you will just see the fuel lines running on the left hand side of master cylinder and then it runs along under the strut brace

with due respect I would replace the rubber pipes, specially running so close to the exhaust system, the heat will soften the rubber and with the pressure they will split. You can make your own in copper/nickel and do a good job with the engine out.

That makes more sense, so they need to be the other side of the master cyl up against the firewall?

Aelred the rubber bits were only to insulate the pipe where it was rubbing, they are still a one piece metal fuel line. I would prefer to replace the section but i have no idea how to join two sections or re-attach the fuel rail connectors to a new pipe?

          Cheers,

          Mark.

yeah mark if you copie my image and zoom into it you will see them coming to the left of the brake res cap and then just see them running under the strut brace and thn into the braided hoses

              Mark,

I'm replacing mine ATM mate, under the car from the tank forward.
I bought a proper pipe bender from flea bay for £15, then use these high pressure Wade compression fittings, and a standard pipe cutter and flaring tool for the ends & connections.

Thanks Alex, those connectors look perfect. Any idea what size the fuel lines are?

Also is there anything fancy about the flaring tool or is there only one type? I can see lots of them on ebay but dont know which is best.

                    Cheers,

                    Mark.

5/16" or 8mm kunifer pipe is what you need.

Don't bother with the cheap hand held flare tools. Been there when doing the fuel lines on a 90q 20v and it was a waste of time. Ended up buying a vice mounted flare tool which made it much easier.

Thanks Guys, i found this thread http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24716 which answers my question. My plan is to cut the fuel lines just under the steering rack, fabricate new lines for the engine compartment, and then join them with the wade connectors mentioned above.

I had a quick look around motor factors today and got a role of 8mm copper lines, they are pricey too as i didn't get much change out of €50. I still need to buy a flare tool and pipe bending tool to finish the job.

@MikeS2, can you goggle a pic of the flare tool you recommend? I'm still going to need something hand held to flare the lines under the car.

                          Cheers, Mark.

I used this one for flaring on the bench

If you need to flare under the car I used one like this

They really are a bit hit and miss and not as reliable as the bench mounted ones
