    Potholes

Anyone ever hit a large pothole and successfully claimed off a council? i hit a large one tonight and ruined both n/s wheels, rear is pretty bad so fitted the spare and the front now goes flat after about 2 mins. Luckily i had a tyry inflator in the car so had to stop every half mile on the way back home to blow the sodding thing back up.
To say im p***ed off is an understatement.
The roads round here are a complete joke, i pay enough god damn tax to these w###ers....f#####g b#####ks

you still in Surrey Martin - they are some of the worst i have seen...used to swear all the way from Haslemere where i used to live into Guildford becuase of potholes and knackered surfaces.

I think it is definately possible to claim succesfully, I'd go back and take some decent photographs of the place where the damage was caused and check if there is any CCTV to ensure you can confirm you were in the area etc if needed.

This country is a corrupt, bankrupt pretty much and we can't even keep a road in reasonable shape, despite paying through our noses for tax etc...

No im in Leighton Buzzard now David. Yes im going to take some fotos, but at the moment im pretty screwed transport wise, does anyone have 2 rs4 alloys (old style) going spare, i'd just set off back to yorkshire for the w/end and had an MOT booked in the morning which runs out on monday. Failing that i'll have to get another set of wheels, i think these are pretty 'soft' TBH.
This was on a country road just near Tebworth in Bedfordshire so no CCTV im afraid. Hopefully there have been a few complaints already about 'said' pothole.

Martin - speak to knight rider s4, he might have some spare, not sure what he's doing with them.

          Martin,

Definitely get the piccies quick before the council send someone out to mark the holes (especially if other motorists are likely to report them)

I did manage to win a claim against Leeds City Council when I damaged a wheel and tyre, but my father didn't (a totally separate incident on a different road)

Apparently, it depends on when the road was last inspected. Just how that makes a difference to potholes appearing I'll never know!!

Basically, the council's pass on any claims to their insurance companies and it is them who make the decision on whether a claim is paid.

          Good luck mate.

What did you get when you won your claim?

              Martin,

Fortunately, I only damaged 2 tyres (both egged in the side wall), but managed to get about 75% of the value for 2 replacements. They wanted to know what tread depth there was presumably to calculate the amount of wear, but they were not that old. I also submitted photos showing the amount of tread when I sent the original photos showing the actual damage.

A bit o/topic but, what about gritter lorries?

Got blasted from one last night as it was going in the other direction and the stuff was hitting my side windows and bonnet! I realise they have to "spread" it over two lanes but this guy was chucking it into the air!!.

Checked her (sry, it) this am, and all is well; however I could have swore he was taking most of my paint off at the time.

Don't talk to me about gritter lorries. I was out in the Midget in December, and there was a damn gritter out. I got a load of grit down my neck when it went past, and I dread to think what it did to the poor car.

Years ago I cracked an alloy on my cq20v when I hit a pothole. At the time I couldn't find a single wheel to replace it, so I had to buy a new set.
