been looking at the rear pair, but looks like the BE3-6212 mentioned in this thread are NLA. replaced by BE3-6214, same as A4 B5 quattro S4... 108€ a piece.

You'll need to machine new grooves in the rears to lower the spring platform to the correct height as the B5 platforms are higher up. MaRS2 showed the details in a thread ages ago.

That's the one. Mine were done by Bilstein when the dampers were back with them so I don't know how they did it.

The tools is a hack saw.

I can't find a machine shop around here with a lathe large enough to machine the grooves for me. I'll be sending mine back to Bilstein too.

              EH!
I have a small Boxford lathe and that does them easy!
I think you are being fobbed off! they just don't want to fit the steady to the lathe for two grooves!

                I do !

With the strut dissassembled apply a moderate amount of heat in the area of the upper mounting eye. This will free up the thread lock that helps secure it on the damper shaft.Trap the damper shaft with some alli vise jaws & remove the top eye. That then allows you to put it in the jaws of a lathe chuck.I had the grooves cut as 5mm intervals. We then fitted a shorter bump stop.
