    Brake leaking problem

I have been losing oil from the fluid reservoir and the light has been flashing on the dash saying the fluid level is low!!! On inspection i could not see any evidence of oil dropping onto the road after it had beeen stationary overnight. I looked inside the car for signs of oil, low and behold the drivers footwell had been absorbing the oil into the carpet under the mat. Could this be the master cylinder leaking on the bulkhead and how hard is it to repair and cost of new part. Any help would be appreciated lads all the best steve.

Steve, which oil are you loosing, is it brake fluid or hydraulic oil?

If it's brake fluid, it's probably the clutch master cylinder or the hose coming through the bulkhead to it that's leaking. If it's hydraulic oil then the brake assist unit could be leaking.

Try and see where the leak is coming from by feeling what is wet to see if it's brake or clutch.

If it's brake fluid & inside the car then it's almost certainly the clutch master cylinder, but check where it's coming from! Could also just be the hose feeding fluid to the clutch master cylinder from the reservoir - you'll see the hose coming through the rubber gasket at the bulkhead. Not a difficult job to change as long as you can bend upside down inside the footwell but bleeding afterwards will be fun due to the difficulty in reaching the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder. Cylinder is held in by 2 socket headed bolts which an extension and flex joint will help you reach.

Pete at QC is a good place to start for a new clutch master cylinder. It's unique to S2/RS2s so places like GSF can't help.

The hose isn't under pressure so any hose from a motor factors that can withstand brake fluid would be fine.
