    Bonnet catch wires

    Hey guys

I have a 93 avant and i have noticed when doing about 80 or so the passenger side, front bit of bonnet seems to be flapping a bit, almost like if a gust of wind was to catch it, it would fly open. Dont really want that.

The drivers side is nice and tight. Interestingly tho, when i try to open the bonnet, i have to pull the lever in the car again (twice) to get the catch to let go of the passenger side. Any ideas on how i can adjust this or anything to check that it is catching correctly?

I do know abit about car mechanics having just finished my brothers mk1 caddy with engine swap and currently doing a 69 beetle myself, so i would like a go at playing with my new toy too.

    Any advice greatly recieved.

check the wire is in all the plastic clips an they sit correctly and the rubbers adjust ( bump stops) sometimes need adjusting, and also that your bonnet pull is screwed to panel nice n tight..

When I adjusted my bonnet catch cable I looped a cable tie around it, so I could hook it through the grille, in case the bonnet pull didn't work.

I had the same problem with mine.

Could only fix it by replacing the cable, and it works fine now with no more scary bonnet lifting!

If you do decide to fit a new cable be sure to order a new bulkhead grommet too.

Cheers for all the info guys. I had a quick look last night and when i lifted my bonnet, the bonnet catch on the passenger side, was still in the clip. Upon releasing the handle in the car, the pig popped right off due to the spring in it. Im gonna screw that back in tommorrow and hope that cures the problem. If not, i guess im running a new cable!

Cheers for the info guys, I shall let you all know if im successful or not!

          Hoping to be....

Feeling slightly embarrassed now, after work this evening, i have screwed back in the bonnet catch and it seems to be holding the bonnet down nice and tight. I hope this doesnt fall off again. Always the way, fix 1 problem gain anew one only this time in the form of a screw in my tyre. Why cant the councils clean the roads properly to keep our beloved cars going safely. Will sort that in the morning then its onto the rain water into the footwell issue, ad the rear window wiper not working, and the front passenger electric window not going down off the drivers door switch, then the central locking not working off the drivers door.... Seems never ending but i guess atleast i can still use it.
