Why does this always happen to me?

Came to drive home from pool last night at about 11pm to be greeted by this little beauty:

So that was me changing on to the ever wonderful space saver at the road side, in the dark, and with it starting to rain. Lovely.
Got a new tire sorted today but that was £85 and a lunch break I could have done without spending right now!

What really does my head in is this is the 4th premature tire death I've had in the last 18 months - two sidewall failures and two punctures on the edge. And people wonder why I don't put 18s on the car!

Scooby's and Evo's are loud basically 'LOOK AT ME' cars, even when parked up. They therefore evoke two unwanted traits in the average passing chav/yob or drunk : -

        1. Envy - In any normal human being, this is fine - after all, I am envious of Nick Mason's £20M+ stable of cars, but I wouldn't attack them. However we are not dealing with 'normal' humans here but an evolutionary branch which makes Neanderthal man look like Stephen Hawkins. This branch is not of the Darwinian 'survival of the fittest' variety, but more the 'uncontrolled mutations within a very small gene puddle' variety These individuals cannot accept that other people have worked hard and bought a car which is better than their 1.2 Clio (with a £3k body kit) and therefore feel the need to damage said property.

        2. Dislike - This is where the majority of people with an IQ about 75 find themselves. They don't like the cars because they are loud, brash and aggressive, as well as being faster and better than their 1.8 Vectra. However most people in this category will not attack a parked Scooby, but will just joke about how tiny the owner's pen1s must be.....that is until they consume 10 pints of 'wife beater' - at which point they take on the mentality of the group 1 individuals and therefore attack the car with the same thought processes - or lack there of.

All in all, I really feel for you and I genuinly hope this never happens again, but I honestly think it will, every night, in every town centre and therefore it is your turn about every 6 months....sorry

The moral of this is buy a sleeper.....like an Audi

            So in summary:

            IQ < 75 = 1.2 Corsa = Envy of others' success = violence.
            75 < IQ < 100 = 1.8 Vectra = Jealousy of others' possessions = alcoholic rage.

And I though this thread was about puctures, it's actually a social comentary by the Forum's leading pundit

Si your commentary was just what I needed to lighten up a heavy afternoon, where I'm actually having to do lots of work instead of reading and dreaming about the next set up upgrades I'd love to do...

Andy - that really sucks, having recently changed my wheel in the pitch black on the M4 I feel the pain. And at least that wasn't a malicious outburst by some chav scum returning from his neccesary trip to the job centre, so that he qualifies to receive your tax contribution for the last month to spend propping up the economy as Brown has suggested we should all do, by spending it at the local pub...

I have a nasty habit of jinxing myself, usually when other people ask me questions. Ones that stick in my mind are, is the car ok? Have you ever been pulled over by the police? Have you ever been done for speeding? The car was vandalised within the week, I was pulled over by the police within the hour and was caught speeding the next day. So I now refuse to answer any questions like the above.

                    never a truer word spoken.

however good a driving machine an impreza is it does attract the wrong crowd.

its the escort turbo for the new millenium but the mentality will never evolve.

Interesting that everyone's first thoughts were that the tire had been vandalised. I can't say I've had a real problem with that happening tbh, I am however a magnet for every peice of sharp crap on the roads!

I can honestly say I know of any one case where I've had a tire ruined through suspected vandalism - "kids" (this is quotes as there were suspicions that a former colleague was doing it) were repeatedly letting a tire down on one of my previous scoobs and eventually the sidewall gave way.

That would be the first of the four I mentioned - the rest have been:

                        1. Punctured by a nail while driving (heard it go)
                        2. Sidewall failure - a lovely little egg-sized lump developed on the side of the tire, no sign of impact, believed to be materials failure
                        3. This one - While I guess a deliberate act is a possibility I doubt it as it was parked in a social club car park in the quietest village known to man. The car park isnt on a main road and is not a pedestrian thoroughfare. Also the road leading up to it does see a reasonable amount of farm traffic so I'm pretty sure I just impaled the tire on some junk while driving.

What you are saying about the attitude of thick people towards scoobs is true though - having had 3 seperate incidents of keying, three offensive messages stuck to the car, and one attempted theft I know all too well the problems with jealous plebs. The way I see it the day I stop owning the car I really want because of the actions of some grease stain with an IQ lower than one of my farts is the day they "win"!

When I got the car back in May it had Marangoni Zetas on the rear - and yes they were a bit rubbish, fine in the dry but useless in the cold and wet untill you got some temp into them, they were essentially brand new though (about 50miles) so couldnt face forking out to replace brand new tires when I was already skint after the accident. Plus they were still better than P6000s!

One of them was the tire that developed the bulge all on its own about 4K ago so it was replaced with a Toyo T1R and I've now replaced this one with a T1R to match. The fronts are Yoko's but will probably get replaced with Toyo's when they wear out.

Couldn't be arsed with the effort of waiting on tires to come from Camskill or Blackcircles (bearing in mind I'm stuck on a space saver in the meantime) so I just went to the place I often use which is two doors down from where I work. Only cost me £85 fully fitted which compared to £79 delivered from Camskill and £91 fitted from blackcircles wasn't a bad price!
