    Exhaust Heat Shield

The Mrs was driving the car today and popped it into 3rd instead of 5th on the motorway. She said that it started to make a scrapping noise after that. I took it out for a test drive to see if i could hear anything.... but nothing, everything was fine even the gears.

However when parking the car it scrapped on the pavement (never done this before). took a look underneath and the passenger side of the exhaust heat shield was hanging. it had broken away from the bolts.

Any advice on how to fix it? it won't fix back to the original bolts as its broken.

I had this, either rivet it back in place or use some big washers, with mine it was the shield that broke around the holes rather than the threaded parts smapping. Been fine for 3 years.

ditto the big washers, I have had to do that in a couple of places. After 10 - 15 years the sheilds do deteriorate somewhat...
