    Quick release panel fasteners?

    Hey guys

Got a question that I was hoping someone may have an answer for.

I am currently rebuilding a 69 Beetle (I know, its old and slow, at the moment! ) I am making the rear panel above the exhaust removeable so i can change the exhaust and remove the engine even easier and so i can run it without the panel to help keep it cooler if need be!

Anyway i am going to attach the rear panel in a slightly different way to normal. It is going to sit in the original position but i need something to hold it in place. Most people use the rear wing bolts to do this but it ruins paint work so im gonna be different.

I am looking for something that works like a bonnet pin but is not a bonnet pin. I have seen on a friends welder some little screw like heads that twist with a screw driver and lock into the panel underneath them. They fit flush to the panel so dont look to out of place. Problem is i cant find them anywhere. Demon tweeks has some similar but they are not sprung like the ones i have seen and also on demon tweeks there are another set that protrude too much.

Any ideas where i may be able to find something like i am describing????

Cheers guys, hopefully your kknowledge will be better than mine!

            LOTS???? Cool

Do you have any that arent too big a head that would work with a flat head screw driver and im guessing wont be too long? Maybe 5 or 6 mm long? Oh and that you want to shift on??? Also any pics of them fitted to anything so i can see? Also do they come with the piece they clip into on the panel underneath as it were?

Sorry lots of wierd questions but im not to sure on any of my dimensions yet.

Cool cool. Aelred, what is the wire like thing with the curl on either end?? Where does that go? Im going to my mates work shop this evening to play with a few bits. I will ask him what size he was thinking of using.

Cheers for getting the images up so quick. I will be in touch tommorrow regarding them.

                  Cheers once again

                  Chris

The wire goes in the back of the panel were you lock the screw part with 1/2 turn. I am away tomorrow for 5 days though

Cheers Aelred. I got in last night and tried to log in but it kept booting me back out. Most likely my old rubbish lap top! Anyway, thanks for the offers but i think i need 0.5mm in length pins. Any longer and i think they will protrude to far from the rear panel i am trying to connect.

Shall keep people posted when i get onto putting them on!
