    Other brands

Just out of interest after reading s2driveruk's recent post

    linky

what other brands of cars do people run and enjoy? Just curious to how many people stick to say audi's and audi's only.

I know a few members have classic cars hidden away, anything interesting?

I had a drive of a mr2 for spink recently and was quite surprised at how it felt like being in a video game in feel inside the car, i.e. pop up headlights, high transmission tunnel and feedback.

Another marque but I guess not really another brand. Does Suzuki count?
    1994 Audi S2 Avant - in pieces
2006 Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0TFSi - goes fast
    1985 Audi 90 quattro - is wet

2 old Triumphs and a Suzuki Katana here.

The current realist list of cars I indend to buy alongside the daily driver, S2 and the above includes: -

      Audi 200 5T
      Series 3 Landrover SWB
1303S Beetle (It's a childhood thing plus I have first refusal on a friends)
Early VW camper (unlikely to be a splitscreen though)

      Cheers n

Mk.1 & 2 Golf GTI, anything VR6, anything 'M' and BMW pre 1995, anything Porsche, C43, 190E 2.X-16, most things RS and anything Cosworth, most things Lotus, Pug pre. '94, most Renault Sport... the list goes on and on.

Current second car is BMW E30 318is, favourite car I owned was a tatty mk.2 GTI on shot suspension and no PAS, you had to work hard but it rewarded thought and effort. Money no object... not sure but something with a lot of history to it, real world, mk.1 RS1600 or mk.2 RS1800 or maybe a quattro.

Proton GTI for me. Sold my last one for £1700 and just bought an 2001 y reg one with 20k mile on, for £1100 (got myself a little bargain there)! Lotus handling, nippy 140hp engine and feels like a little go kart. Love the proton gti's since i had my first one 5 years ago

Phreaky list here folks... there are some common veins of interest here. I've long wanted to do the kit car Cobra - since before I could drive. I practically get moist every time I see one.
Got a sort of a thing for muscle cars too - Mustangs especially, but I wouldn't turn my nose away from a nice Camaro. I'm too old to be driving fast round corners these days - the visual appeal of a nice old muscle car with the rumbling V8 really tickles me.

I've also got to get the Alfa Romeo thing off my chest - they definitely have character. Pity about the rust and the lectrics and the wheels that fall orf, but hey.

Then there's the Lancia Delta - even more complex and temperamental than an S2 can ever be - but it calls to me.

And Land Rovers - got a thing for one of those as well since I got to a certain age. Hard to know why.

Nothing else from Germany calls to me - except maybe a Porsche 944 - I don't have an attraction to 911 derivatives any more than I have for scantily clad blonde Hungarian girls... They sure are nice to look at, they sound sweet and sure feel good, but taking one to the limit is just a bit too scarey if it goes wrong

Cars i'm currently running? Just sold my BMW 2002 so were back to a pure VW/Audi family.

Cars i've always dreamed of owning? I could name a car from just about every manufacturer with the exception of Nissan. I dont know why but they just annoy me.

Current hankering is a mid 80's Porsche 911, and a Mazda MX5. Both cars i have recently driven and cant stop thinking about

had a Peugeot 205 D for the last six months, bit of a shame cause it's the only none Audi I owned

Currently I have: Audi 200T, Audi 80 CD, Audi 90 TD, Audi 90 quattro, Audi coupe quattro (not at home yet) < All type 81/85 cars except for the 200 wich is a type 44. And the S2 coupe ofcourse.

Previous owned cars: Audi coupe GT, Audi 90, Audi coupe GL, Audi S2, Audi 90 quattro, Audi cabriolet, Audi 80 1.6, Audi UrS4 avant (for parts only)

I won't say I'll never enjoy another brand but till this point I didn't.

Are they the one's with the rivited on bodykit, little small car? If so I saw one on the way home on thursday after smashing up my daily and they are a nice little car problem with the one I saw was the camber on the rear wheels where it had been lowered stupidly, looked good apart from that.

I like the thought of a muscle car but over here it would just rust away unlike america, I would like to hire one when I go over there tho.

Two cars I would like to own before I die, some sort of porsche (not really fussed which one apart from the small porsche think its a 928 (the one everyone can pick up cheap etc) and i'd like to own an alfa and in particular one of the one's clarkson used for the alfa track day (and put on its side)

Lancia's are nice and I do like the delta but prices are holding very well and the thing that always worried me was the list of things that could go wrong in particular the shell cracking.

@Mr casey - I'd still be tempted by another rs turbo and if I ever robbed a bank (for the required engine rebuild a cossie) and I do still use passionford's website quite often but the problem is finding one that has not a) rusted away b) owner doesn't want the earth for something that isn't worth it c)hasn't been chavved up and ruined. I do think the ford scene is still good, just not sure i'm prepared to go thru owning another one till it rusted away (same could be said if I owned a ur quattro that had been neglected)

btw think out of the pick of it you've got the e30 of choice, admitted the 325i's have a bit more grunt and soundtrack but the 318is is lighter and has better handling.

                          cheers all

Yeah thats the one. The one i just got has been in storage for five years and is standard apart from an exhaust which is the same design as standard but made from stainless steel. The exhausts rot for fun on the proton. If your after a little car for £1000-1500 then it has to be considered. Has anyone else ever driven one?

I've got a 1303LS Cabriolet sitting in a garage rotting away Took it off the road a couple of years ago but it used to be my everyday car for a little while. Can't say it was massively reliable, but it was SO much fun to drive! When I have a more stable income i'll restore it back to it's former glory.

Cars I want: I will definately buy a kit when I can afford it. Most Likely a Dax Rush with a ruddy great V8
