    That's a re-post

He says it's a Golf GTD 1.6 engine, 75bhp old skool diesel.

Yeah 1.9 would have been better, would have been more interested in knowing what drivetrain/gearbox he used.

@mr rusty I had not seen the original thread, you got a linky?

Really like the idea of that, i had an 80TD the same age and loved it. From memory they were 75bhp/150lbft, everything mechanical and made a hell of a noise when cold.

The day i bought it i discovered it was faster overtaking than a mk1 MX5, all i had to do was keep it in 5th and floor it. My dad was screaming the head off his MX5 trying to keep up

sounds to me like it was originally quattro (probably 1.8 8v dz) then the 1.6td was fitted

i put a post up a couple of months back now about 01A quattro gear ratios for this same application, although with a 1.9 instead. didnt get much feedback unfortunately. It would be interesting to hear his btdt for this car...i think its probably pretty high revving for a desiesel on the motorway.....

not sure about the 1.8 8v but my 20v sits at about 4k at 90 were as my diesel sits at just under 3...very rough figures.. the tdis really run out of steam anythign past 3800 so its a serious limitation on top speed....i'd be surprised if he can get much past 90 with the stock box....happy to be proven wrong tho!

Top idea - go for it... Even if you aren't the first. The B4 chassis is stunning for allowing a FWD one to have quattro stuff bolted onto it with minimum pain. Just fantastic. Gearing could be an issue though if you aren't careful.

well i had a look into it before, the placed to bolt it all are there, just not the bolt holes, was thinking just drilling and tapping into the chassis isnt the best choice but dont think it would be too much of an issue. upgrade the turbo perhaps lol
