I agree that good planning helps reduce the pain when running one car, but you know what happens with all the best plans - something else breaks along the way and a week goes by waiting for unexpected parts - or the kids play up for two days straight and nuthin gets done on the car. Mine would get used regularly if it was nicer to drive... I don't have the money to attack all those jobs in one monster project... I just need the flexibility of another car so that when I collect up the bits for each phase that I am not exposed to unexpected pain and stress.

Gonna try and prioritise things here, but the first thing is a daily driver I can trust.

Lock the kids in a cupboard, they'll be fine, then you can get on with the car

I am about to buy a good and solid 600 Euro Nissan Micra as backup car for me and a "daily driver" for my girlfriend. It's a car where I can not be temped to invest any upgrade or pimping it
I believe this will increase pleasure for my girl and myself, and gives more flexible timing for working on the S2, like picking up spare parts, removing the complete engine, etc..

My list is almost as long as your list Paul. My garage is full of new bits worth loads of money, but already waiting for several years to be fitted!
