When I did mine we just knocked off some of the clips and moved the pins, no cutting/welding.

iirc its 20v/v6/s2 seats I can't remember what I got my bases from, late model cars might have them as well.

I have got a pair of manual seats from a Ur-S4 to replace those in my B4 saloon, I attempted the swapping of Ur-S4 subframes for The B4 ones and found 2 things that stopped me....

The passenger subframe from my B4 will not come off to go on the Ur-S4 item as the B4's subframe has no height adjustment. Which B4 models had height adjustment on the passenger seat?

I am struggling with the spot welded bar problem. How has this been overcome, or am I looking at the wrong part?

    Do it in pictures:

The green arrows point to the height adjustable subframe on the B4 seat and the area where it is welded.

This is the area where there's a spot weld, it is like this at the other end of the bar

If I took both clips out, it still doesn't go anywhere, how do you get through this weld? It is like it on the B4 seats and the Ur-S4 ones.

    Hello, Fish,
the seats with had the ok subframes for me were from s2 coupe. Those tilt mechanisms are now obsolete for me. PM for me if interested in to the mechanisms for some R&D work..... Skandinavian Buspaket is quite cheap.

    Thanks for the update Acidburn.

    My update:
    - the subframes are now changed from B4 (manual height adjustment version) front seats to C4 S6 seats. The S6 front seats fit well to the B4. The tilting seat sub frame rail position switch for moving the seat back and forth needs to be taken from S6 subframe to the B4 subframe, because otherwise the tilting lock mechanism is not at a good position when the new seat has the adjustable leg support.

I strongly assume that same upgrade method works for installing the B5 S4 front seats to B4.

I wish the Audi designers would have done some more headroom for sun roof equipped cars......

In the picture above the clips I was referring to at the front are the one's above the handle for moving the seat forwards and backwards and below the base of the seat (they are 2x big metal rods with spring clips on the end to hold them in, you just need to take off 1 of the spring clips and remove the bar)

I will try and have a go at this over the next week or so as I have yet another spare set of these seats and some spare bases for them so will try get some pictures etc when I do it.

1x 17mm nut for the seat belt section

I´m doing the same upgrade with manually operated s6 seats (-97 ) and the recipy shortly is to replace the old b4 subframe to an upgrade seat. But the mentioned removal of 2 (or 4) pcs front clips is not enough because there are also some spot weldings done to the axles that give the seat rise capability at front. See the removable clips in the pic (from s2 seat) :

S2 seat with no height adjustment:

[ Compare how the recaro subframes look:
    http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showpos...2&postcount=42 ]

    S2 seat with height adjustment:

So it is at least with s6 seat upgrade. => slightly more work . The only difference in manual subframes with manual height adjustment seems to be that the slider legs at the bottom back of the seat are wider apart. Rest of the mechanism is the same in quick check.

Otherwise it seems to be very straight forward upgrade of excellent manually operated audi original later model sport seats that are about 5 to 7 cm higher (compared to s2 seat) giving better back support at top. The s6+ headrests are not like the s2 originals, but like in b5 s4. The upgrade sport seats are ~ as heavy as the old manual s2 sport seats, but much lighter than the electrical seats of rs2. The new seat area bottom is the same (like in S2 or s4....) but with adjustable leg support, which is also in ETKA for later model S2.

Same upgrade recipy is most probably valid with sport seats from S4/s6/s6+/v8 /a200 20v having (light) manual sport seats and with the manual height adjustment.

Thanks to Acidburn for the great upgrade idea for a longer driver ! The long thread:

Some example picture of manual S6 front seats that fit to s2 avant when manual subframes changed. (S6 Rear seats do not fit to S2 avant....)

These otherwise nice looking front seats have the electrical adjustments and are too heavy (quite close to S8 seats) :

Thanks very much, sounds good. I think I am due another browse of your thread anyway

Thanks for the advice on the springs, I have been there before helping a mate put buckets in his honda "we will just let the tension off this spring" as the rail shoots across the room. Funny after, not at the time.

I detailed in my audifans thread ("the chipfat express") a bit more about what to do but as long as you get a pair of seats for the bases that are the same style as whats on the seats (some of them have the main support bar going above rather than below) you will be fine.

there is the following to do:

2x clips at the front of the seat on the hindge bit
1x clip on the side without the seat belt buckle bit
2x clips on the other side
1x 17mm nut for the seat belt section

    and then 3x springs

one small silver one which is easy to remove
then 2x bigger one's for the height adjustment - be carefull as I mentioned in the other thread as i'd rather not hear of how you took out next doors cat/car/kid

then its just swapping them over/repeating on the other seat.

Really are nice seats, hold you in a hell of a lot better than the standard one's. Just got to have the heated seat elements fitted to these.

Any questions give me a shout

That looks great, that my seat issues sorted, now just need to find a set.

Did you take any pictures of what you did or is it self explanitory when you look at the mounts?

you can get the small sections from custom autocraft, what differs with these is if you look the numberplate surround is a complete unit same as the one's on the 90's that people put on avants (i.e. dest) and is a full length unit, i've only ever seen one more car with the unit on.

A set popped up on ebay.de about a week ago for 270 euro's.
