    Name that fault!

Hey fellas, looking for someone to confirm my suspicions on diagnosis.

Brought an s2 avant in feb and have been driving it daily. Press the clutch pedal and it goes half way down then gets pressure behind it. Has been like it since i got it.

Driving home from cornwal last night, in traffic at Bristol. Pushed the clutch and 'Twang' its like a spring has pulled it to the floor where it stayed!

Hook my foot under it and it pops back up with the same force like a spring has released and it shoots back to resting position.

Not happy , limped it to services and got recovered home. I think I know what it is but I would like some suggestions to see if my diagnosis was right.... and no, I didnt diagnose it with wet pedal fish syndrome

Suggestions on the back of a postcard please! ( Or on here )

Was my guess number one! Any ideas on cost of part, part number? and level number to fix it. 1= easy 5= hard? Gonna make that dreaded call to Audi in a bit. Was waiting for the confirmation first.

      Cheers Fella (hi 5)

If it is the master cyl push rod that is gone, you can mend it yourself. Its a real PITA to do. PM me your phone number and I will talk you through it if you want.

The master cylinder was about £120 when I had it done 5 years ago. I think they are about £150 now...

Take the front seat out and be prepared to lie on your back for a couple of hours...

            its not too bad.

2 bolts hold it into the car. remove the pipe from the side of the reservoir first, drain off some fluid until its not feewding out anylonger. lean on the bottle to tilt it towards passenger sidfe to get the fluid level below the tube.

crack the nut on the pipe going into it. 2 allen key bolts hold the master in. disconnect the pedal first. its 1 bolt 13mm i think. pull the cylinder into the footwell. remove the pipe to the fluid res.

before you remove the collar that attaches to the pedal from the old cylinder make a note of how far on it is screwed.

about 1 hour max plus bleeding. i use a motive products bleeder

took me 4 hours with a few cups of tea but then I took some of the engine bay stuff out to get better access. You can sleeve the pushrod / tap it and screw a replacement part over it and save £££s.

Christ, not a job I wanna be doing or paying out for and to top it off I got made jobless this morning!

With any luck I will be back as a tree surgeon, hoping my previous employer has a position I can take.

Wonder what the third thing will be..... always happens in 3's

Cheers for all the advice guys. All sorted after 1 day. Just not had the chance to get on here! Made a new rod for the master cylinder and tapped it with a thread.
