the easiest way to apply it is with a sponge applicator i've found, gives a nice finish... but really, noone cares about the finish on your subframe....

EDIT: actually, this IS Steve's thread....

      I can't believe it a detailing thread on POR-15

Por15 is not UV resistant so if you want it to last i.e look pretty then top coat it after application.

I agree, I've brush painted POR15 and it was as smooth as silk when dry. Plus I've read that when you thin it to spray it reduces it's chip resistance.

It won't me seeing much UV sitting in my garage for 99% of the time though will it?

Thanks for your input though, I will double check its suitablility.

                Cheers,

I agree the POR-15 rust prevention paint that Steve linked to is not UV resistant so should be top coated when used in areas exposed to direct sunlight. Unless you're planning on driving the S2 upside down I can't see a problem!

The POR-15 Chassis coat is UV resistant and can be used to top coat the above product for a super tough finish. However I think Steve's already planning to use Hydrate 80 as a base coat which is very good stuff, so IMHO those two products combined with the Dynax in the cavity will be enough to provide an extremely long lasting protection.

I would top coat it - just for extra protection.

I cleaned mine back, treated it with Loctite 'Rust Remedy' (even though it wasnt rusty!) then painted it with outboard engine primer and paint!

Different, but i did it about 4 months ago and its holding up well!

Thanks for offering a different option.

I just want to get it back on the road as quickly and inexpensively as possible whilst providing enough protection for the rest of its (garage queen) life.

Ah dude, just catchin up with your thread after rain stopped play on my project, wiring and rain doesn't mix! Cannot believe your coupe has rotted in its sealed bubble, lucky you don't use it and abuse it like most of us or the subframe would be hangin outLol!

Know how you feel though, found a hole in my caddy whilst under it fitting the new engine, more welding but was going to be under it making the exhaust anyway so will bosch in a plate at the same time.

Good luck, race is on for inters, i am in the same boat but sounds like you are slightly closer to getting yours there. Only got mine started yesterday!

                            Thanks Crawford,

The race is most definitely on! All being well I *should* be okay, the subframe is sound apart from the hole! I also have the fuel lines to do and am ordering the parts up for that today.

As long as I can get it all apart (there are some rusty bolts under there) I think I will be okay....

                            Fingers crossed for you too.

                            Cheers,
