I recently took my RS2 to the BHP show earlier in May, and after spending two days cleaning her I thought she was ready...however after driving her I noticed she was lacking in the handling department....well really she had been for some time so I decided it was high time my RS2 got a good refresh
so I took a couple of days off work and spent the last two days doing the following on her:
Suspension+ARB Poly Bushes Fitted (front/rear)
All belts changed (cam + auxiliary)
New Water pump (peace of mind)
Volcano RS cam sprocket fitted (nice)
New cam tensioner
Oil+Filter change
Exhaust manifold nuts replaced/retightened
Mark H mod on intercooler
Water pipe replaced (it had started dripping under the inlet manifold)
Vacuum pipe replaced (boost valve)
Cooling system flushed
Air con pipe and dryer replaced
Very happy with the progress...but still lots on my to do list below...
New balljoints front/rear
New tie rods front/rear
Rear brake pads
Front + Rear subframe bushes
New exhaust to be made (no cats and removal of centre box)
Subframe mounts
Engine mounts
Diff mounts
Coilovers
034 SD Top mounts to be fitted - waiting on the above
Gotta say thanks to my brother Nev for the use of his workshop, Matt his mechanic for diving in and working his magic the last two days, and Dan our part timer for getting the ice-creams in.
I always dreaded working on my car, the list of jobs were piling up and it always put me off working on it...but finally I took the plunge and just cracked on...feeling great now cos she's finally starting to go/handle as good as she looks, and really the jobs weren't as bad as I expected once I got started. Damn lucky I did it too...the cam belt was so loose you could almost slide it off with a finger
...and the good old bottom cam sprocket was worn and probably wobbling!! I think a strong launch would have jumped the belt.....very lucky escape there I think!
Just thought I'd share the experience with everyone cos I'm in a good mood now and throw in a couple of pics for good measure!
