Highest MPG you've had?

At first I thought - this is a joke.. surely
I'm lucky to get over 20 - even on a longish run.... And I don't drive like a mad man. Maybe I should look into one of these remaps after all.. Highest I ever got was driving from Cambridge - Brussels - a whopping 24!Comment

Before remapping you should make sure your car is running fine.
A couple of things to check:
1. Boost leaks - if there is a boost leak, every time you boost some metered air will run out and you will run rich (had this).
2. MAF - if the MAF is bad you could also get rich running conditions, to check ask someone to lend their working MAF (had this too).
3. Brakes - make sure none of your brakes are stuck, especially the handbrake is fiddly with the rear supports (had this as well).
4. Injectors - get them clean with a special stand, it allows fuel to be more evenly distributed and it improved my idle a lot.
Once all this is done/checked, get a remap.
I drive 95% city, and when I started out, I was barely getting 16mpg. After sorting everything out and altering the maps in my car, I am now getting 22 mpg.
Remember, this is short trips around town, where the engine can barely warm up and I drive aggressively. On longer runs and when not boosting often it is much better.
Also, my car is an urS6 avant, which weighs more, thus your MPG should be better than mine.Last edited by prj; 27 June 2010, 21:52.Comment

well after feeling a bit sheepish for coming close to getting pulled on way to LeMans averaged 31.4mpg on the way there with my dad following. And 28.5 overall on our trip with 3 passengers and fully loaded with camping gear.
I did look at it, but decided against it because of loss of boot space.Greg
