New works van/race barge!

Cool barge - sure could use some more power alright... weighed down with tools, a trailer luggin an RS2, plus tyres and beer... No wonder that many of the works spec barges get major upgrades for sporting duties. In my time on the rally scene - there was many a ranky lookin old transit van kitted out with a V8 engine - impossible to detect until they rumbled out of service. There was another one with a 200hp BDA engine in it that went rather well. I asked the guy about it and he said was running it in as his spare engine for the rally car (a Mk2 lanyard). Thats committment !Paul Nugent

I reckon the ael engine route is your best option,i dare say the LT35 will be the same setup as a t25 ie. buy a 5 pot bell housing off one of the south african engines.there has been a couple of complete but damaged a6 tdis go for around £200 recently on ebay etcComment

Cheers fellas!
What does the newer LT35 5 pot use? Would a engine and box out of one of those be possible?
Thanks for the help, I don't seem to able to find an LT35 forum!

Might be worth looking at the Volvo 740/760 TD models as another potential donor. Looks like there was two versions one with 109bhp and another with 122bhp. They used the VW 2.4 6 pot. Can either transplant or just use the parts necessary. Will be less complex, no electrical gubbins required though. Simplicity = relability!Comment
