How much for this exotica ?

Very bizarraley... after the weekend's trip to Goodwood - being surrounded by the sights and sounds of countless exotic cars yesterday - one of them turned up on my driveway today !

A friend turned up to show it off - his bosses 'new car' that he had out for a tootle. Not everyday you have a supercar on your driveway - man that thing is so low it almost insane - I sat in there briefly and its a bit different shall we say - sitting down that low doesn't inspire much confidence - just alongside the Audis on the drive. A truly mad thing.

A 1990/91 Lotus Esprit with the 2.2 engine - non turbo - recently repainted in glorious red, leather interior refurbed - the 'turbo' wheels looking mint. All running gear in tip top condish with full years MOT and Tax. How much £££ you reckon.

Hint - I was shocked and appalled !

Limited Edition turbos might reach £15K but a mint non turbo is gonna be £10-12K and a tidy one around the £8K mark.

          Cheers n

Darren... dunno if that was a random guess or you have a damn keen eye for the value of these things but you are in the ball park.

It was advertised (locally) at 10k but got no interest - it was bought for I consider a ridiculously cheap 7k - the thing is absolutely minty... Now I know the upkeep of any Lotus is never going to be cheap - but I did have a long moment wondering 'WTF'. There's nothing in the Audi back catalog in the same segment of this car for a proper comparison of course, but you do have to wonder how its possible to pickup something like that in tiptop condition for 7k - when at best that money gets you a scruffy RS2 in LHD that will need another 5-7k spent to bring it up to chuff. Amazing...

My jaw was on the floor - it was simply stunning looking - like having the automotive equivalent of Christina Brinkley sat on your driveway - for seven lousy grand...

I mean I could afford that (well almost) - but of course its the specialist knowledge and search for odd/live/rare bits required to keep them running nicely that really adds up... and you couldn't go near a B-road either !

Yeah, i dont really know much about them but a mate of mine was considering a Turbo so we (well, mainly him actually) starting looking into them, prices etc. In the end he decided against the four pot as was more guided towards the V8 if he was gonna get one but that was loads more money. In the end he bought a scooby so didnt count for diddly anyway..

As you say, classic shaped sports car for relatively little money.

Did you have a drive in your mates bosses??

Lovely looking car. Drove one in the late 80s..Vauxhall 4 pot with twin Dell Ortos. I found the gearbox very "remote" and parking none too easy. The owner was happy to show me how fast it went round corners ( I wont admit to the car I owned at the time - long live BL ).
