Window tint warning...

i dint know what like in england, but police cars here have a plastic laminate put on then stop the glass all falling in on the plod if it gets shoot or there is a bomb. its pretty much as dark as limo tints and yet the police ate allowed to drive around like this and use what they observe from there car in court if you are being prosecuted, yet they technically observed it through a window that according to the law wont give a clear view and by that measure surely makes there evidence void, however it doesnt
also allow there is lots of much worse crimes, the law is abit mixed up. mainly due human nature, its easier for them pull you over for window tints than is to check 50 number plates and maybe get hit for nothing
or here the police are no longer responding to 2 car accidents, which means that when some has been driving dangerous/carelessly enough to cause an accident they dont get charged whereas someone doing 80 on the motorway does. which is worse one where there is damage caused or someone doing a sensible speed on a road designed for 100mpg in a 1960's car
i could go on but i wontComment

Not all the time. Only if a detainee is in the back of the car or when on a shout (as they need to get out of the vehicle quickly) IIRC.1994 Audi S2 Avant - in pieces

A concise summary from another forum!:
The actual limits on allowable tinting of vehicle glass have not changed, they were the same pre 2004 as they are now.
As Oldcodger says, what happened is that the amendment closed a loophole whereby, because the original legislation referred only to the light transmissibility of the glass, it was possible to circumvent it by claiming that a tinted film applied to the glass was not part of the glass itself.
As for Wazza's claim for the superhuman powers of the WPC, current factory tinted automotive glass is often marked with AS standard markings in the same area as the etched manufacturers' name or logo can be found (There are other markings used by some manufacturers, but the AS marking to the American Standard is the most common). Glass marked AS1 is factory tinted to the maximum permitted for windscreens. Glass marked AS2 is tinted to the maximum allowed for side windows ahead of the B-pillar, and AS3 denotes privacy glass, which can be used elsewhere on the vehicle.
If it is apparent to the naked eye that a tinted film has been applied to glass marked AS1 or AS2 in the appropriate location, it is obvious that the addition of the film makes the glass illegal, and according to the ACPO endorsed training package that I received, no additional evidence is required to determine that fact. The same would apply to AS3 marked glass fitted in the wrong location.
The use of a Tintman would be necessary to determine to exactly what extent the light transmissibility of the glass had been affected, which would be important in considering prohibition policy, but my understanding is that the presence of an additional tint on appropriately marked glass is sufficient in itself to issue a rectification notice.
As I believe one of the previously quoted links suggests, a sympathetic enforcement policy has been agreed by the Police, VOSA and other interested parties, whereby the owner or driver of a vehicle who may have had a tinted film applied prior to the amendment to the legislation, should be offered the opportunity to remove the film within a period of up to 10 days, instead of facing immediate prosecution, unless the degree of tinting is severe (less than 30% visible light transmission).
Without the use of a Tintman to measure the degree of visible light transmission, but where the illegality is proven by glass markings, the option of offering an opportunity to remove the film is entirely consistent with that policy.Comment
