You just need single K & L lines for S2... YMMV with these unofficial products... You MUST make sure that VAGCOM is setup to never auto-update, cos then it will stop talking to the interface.

That 409 version is just the limited shareware version though - I am fairly sure it has limited capability - not 100% all those claimed functions are valid for 409...

    See here - http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/vag-functions.html

If you want to upgrade to VAGCOM commercial package you will need a proper official cable as the license key is encoded in the cable like a sort of dongle.

You can be lucky on eBay with tingtong cables - some vendors better than others - but if you autoupdate then it destroys the license hack on the cable.

For an easy life - going direct to RossTech is the only path I can recommend - sure its not cheapest but it is then a properly supported product. They have to keep renewing versions to keep a step ahead of the damned hackers.

i bought leads from china on ebay. bought an obd2 cable and the adapter to the 2 plugs. works fine. IIRC the real leads have the licence embedded dongle.

you can buy the 99$ software or whatever it is or get a backup copy.

i went the flea-bay route. got a couple different ones....

then i bought the "license" to use with my cheap plugins...

then i converted the "license" to the full dongle and wondered why i wasted all the steps in between. yes, the license is embedded in the Ross-Tech dongle, and yes it is worth every bit to get it.

i couldn't justify the cost bearing in mind i had a vems to attach. i got them really to help on obd2 cars.
