i like especially the last serie 3 coupe, and can understand that once u like cars, u like a lot of them ! That s why there so many Petrolheads around.

only think is, when u like to drive , i don t understand how u can be converted to diesel, even with whatever torque they can give, they push hard ok, but no felling whatsoever about getting from 2500 rpm to 8000 ! only high revs car are fun to drive for my part.
And the sound is best part of a car too, V6, V8, I5, but a diesel ?

I did test drive the A5 and had more fun in the 1.8 fsi than in the 3.0 tdi !

Dest : i tried an 535 TD some time ago, and must say the same, they are pretty nice, good power and good milage.
Was impressed with the midrange in thoose engines, but after trying some other diesels like mercedes 420 cdi, vw taureg v10 etc and must admit, that gasoline engines are not all that anymore
BUT, i still like the caracsteristics(sorry for the spelling) off the gasoline engine, and hate the diesel smell, so am keeping the s2 hehe

My daily driver is a 330d Sport Touring, like Dest I never liked diseasels but after the test drive and the fact that it did nearly 600miles per tank I was converted. Great engine. Fwiw, BMW's are brilliant cars and so are a lot of others, really liked the EVO 9 I drove the other day and I really miss my Subaru Legacy and can't wait to have enough money to build a V6 cosworth Cortina Mk3 GT.

It's a damn good engine! I recently swapped a 530d for the Avant for a weekend, and I have to say they are different cars with a different purpose... 80-90 cruising on the motorway, like travelling first class, 47.8mpg average with 240bhp and shed loads of torque - what can I say. Those things were designed to eat miles on the autobahn! Then back in the S2, the word that came to mind pretty quickly was FUN. It sounds fantastic, hugs the road, and puts power to the ground like only a quattro can...

The S2 is exciting - I love driving it, but given the choice on a motorway cruise I'd take the BMW every day. Any other journey the S2 would be my pick.

converted? Why? What year was the 330d? Was it 15yrs old? A guy in work has a autovouge 330d, fantastic car - but he will lose £££ in 1st year, more than my 94 avant is worth probably, so his 40+ mpg is a waste of time!

For the last 5 years my daily drive has been a 3.0tdi, A6 and now A8 love the power delivery and pulled many a BMW out of the snow, diesel or not.

                  I had an e36 ( mid 1990 s ) 3 series 325 tdse earlier in the year.
2.5 6 cylinder turbo, had been chipped, exhaust, filter etc.
Drove like a petrol BMW ( my dad has them) apart from the massive torque at low revs, went well, stopped well, cornered OK but still had 45mpg while thrashing it.
Mrs had a 1.9gt tdi golf a while back, another good diesel
Its horses for courses as with all cars, i don t slag off other people's car choice as everyone buys for various reasons
I still love my Discovery td5 even though its slow and has cost a fortune just lately, but it does what it was designed for
couldn t tow 3 ton trailers ect with the BMW
Can t track day in the Td5!
Open your minds to diesel power!

Not that depreciation was initially part of this thread, but as you have mentioned it... you can pick up a 330d for the same price as a mid to high end S2 price

Those big six BMW diesels are great engines, even in a 5 series body there fast as hell. The latest 335 engines having something like 280hp/430lbft of get up and go....

im having a e39 523T -97 as a daily driver, and i think it both looks and drives good (efter a few adjustments :lol)

is is much quieter and has better gearratio for rod-traveling than my dad´s old A6 -97. sp as a daily it is awesome!

                          edit:

                          white side indicators
                          red tinted rear indicators
                          FK lowering (40mm F/30mm R)
180€ for parts and good for me

Exact same as mine apart from the schnitzers. For what i paid for mine i reckon they're good value compared to the S2.
