Thats obviously an American list, but it makes pretty depressing reading for anyone with even a passing interest in cars made by Audi.

It just proves the lengths to which some people will go just to get that new car smell in their driveway... Never underestimate the power of a status symbol - and if the government wishes to 'help' by destroying old/unwanted machinery then they are the more likely to proceed.

On a quick tot up I see 1158 Audis on that list... depressing.

yeah, you'd say the AM was a destroyed car already.

                But also: 30+ Audi V8's, Audi 200 20V's, Audi 4000 quattro's, 2 urquattro's

                it's a shame.

If the cars are in crap condition anyway, I dont see what the problem is.
When James broke my car everyone slated him, but the green one which has been posted for breaking since as not had a single comment about it being the wrong thing to do, and it looks no worse than the blue one!

<sigh> I gave up trying to convince individuals about keeping cars on the road... Money talks a better story than me - so I've decided to stop stressing about it !

Since we moved site we now see a lot of UK scrappage scheme cars through our SEAT branch. Most of them are sheds but there are the odd few cars which make you think. This morning they had an immaculate (don't laugh) 'A' plate Austin Metro with 27,000miles on the clock. It's a proper timewarp car that hasn't even got stone chips let alone any rot. This afternoon the sales guys will be playing bumpercars with it before it goes of to the crusher! Apparently next week they have a triumph stag coming in which will get the same treatment.

I'll bet thats been some poor old Granny's car (shyte old Metro I know but still) - she's been bundled off to the nursing home last month and her loved ones have cashed her old car in to help buy some boring new 'green' machine to make themselves feel more important... Allegedly.

The BIG problem i have with Cash for Clunkers is how they deliberately destroy the engines. Its fine to write a car off, reuse the parts and recycle the rest but turning a working engine into a paperweight to satisfy some bureaucrat is ridiculous. I can only imagine how many vette fans will be reduced to tears watching this....

The C4 Corvette isn't always held in the highest esteem, but subjecting it to the Cash For Clunkers sodium silicate death sentence just cruel. The car lasts a brutal 3:49 seconds before its smokey death.

That is just sick - whatever happened to reduce, re-use, recycle ?

I suppose the environmentalists will say the crushed metal from the engine will be recyclable - after much expense and material processing - would it be so bad to make the engine re-usable in another vehicle. Dumbass policy.

                              yeah that's just plain stupid.

I just can't do that, I brought my 205 D to the scrapyard but couldn't be bothered to kill the engine before turning it in.
