Road Trip Glasgow to Kajaani (Finland) is on!

Right, The missus and boys are booked to fly to Finland on the 16th of October and I'm planning my drive after the court case (old buggr crashed into me ages ago).
So... Here's my plan. Ignore the Harwich to Esbjerg part of the route on googlemaps. It seems to be unaware of the ferry I'll be taking. Any thoughts are appreciated

-Sunday 1st Oct leave Glasgow early morning, drive to Harwich
-DFDS Ferry Harwich to Esbjerg – Leaves 17:45 Sunday, Arrives Esbjerg 13:00 Monday
-Leave Esbjerg, drive to Stockholm, arrive somewhere between midnight and 05:00 Tuesday depending on traffic and the number of coffee breaks my dad insists on taking. Is there somewhere cheap near Stockholm I should think about stopping to get a couple of hours sleep?
    - Stockholm to Turku ferry - Am I right in thinking the Viking line is better than the Tallink one? Leaves 07:45, arrives in Turku 19:50 Tuesday evening
    - Drive Turku to Kajaani, arrive somewhere between 04:00 and 06:00, looking and feeling like crap.

    Erm.. so that's about it.

Think you missed the part where you stop and steal a petrol tanker to keep you in fuel all the way there but otherwise have fun.

          haha. thanks lads.
Andy - yeah I was thinking about that. Hope the petrol stations are plentiful along the way. I'm not even sure what the current rate is for high octane unleaded in Finland. I guess I don't have a choice anyway so sod it

That is a proper roadtrip Noel - all the best with that and how life figures out in Finland.

                cheers Paul,
It's a risk but I've discovered too many people at senior management level who have confessed they wish they'd done something similar years ago. worst case scenario is i'm going on a 6 month holiday and coming back to Scotland again... erm... to no house or furniture. haha.

insane schedule... why not take the night ferry to Turku or Helsinki?

on the Sweden bit: excelent roads for fast travelling, not many speedcameras and if they are there there are warning signs. I managed average speeds (acc tripcomp) of above 100kmh. just do as the locals do and drive at 20kmh above what the limit is you could check on www.camping.se which campings are still open then, and rent a cabin ("Stuga"), probably the cheapest accomodation with a fixed roof, usually 20-30€/night.

on the Finland bit: probably lots of cameras (especially the 1st half), so you'll want to stick to the speedlimit (certainly since you'll be a resident there so they will hit you hard is fined). price of 98 is about 1.40€.

Definitely - if you have itchy feet then follow them. I don't regret my travels, but circumstances have somehow brought me back home after ~10yrs. I've still got the notion for it again - though it gets harder as you get older - emigrating I mean

Do you have a navigation device, like tomtom?

If you would like to have the speedcameras on it go to :

and download it for free, there is also every gas station there.

I think we'll stop over in Stockholm now and get the night boat as recommended so my dad can go nuts with his camera and so we get to appreciate the countries we're driving through instead of just staring at hundreds of miles of trees in the headlights
