Subject: Audi's lack of customer care with regard to NLA Parts For Collector's of Classic Audi's

As an Owner of a 1993 Audi S2 Which I have owned since 1998 I would like to add my support to the growing calls from collectors of classic Audi's about the lack of spare parts.

I have to say I find it incredible that a company like Audi do not offer more support for people who are trying to keep a part of motoring history going.

Other big manufacturer's seem to "Embrace" the heritage of their brand but Audi don't seem to care...

I would also point out that I am not just a collector of old classic Audi's but I have owned brand new S4 Cabriolet, RS6 Avant etc, but this current situation does taint ones "Faith" in the brand... and the way it treats its customers.

          Regards,

          Ken Eaglesham

          REPLY.....

          Dear Ken

I share your frustration with the current situation regarding lack of parts for older models and you’re right, we are way behind our competitors in this respect.

Word has obviously got out that I am trying within the organisation to change this, as I have been receiving a good quantity of e-mails offering support/advice/criticism etc. over the last few days. All I can do at the moment is reassure you that whilst I don’t have direct responsibility in this organisation for parts, I am passionate enough about the brand to keep the pressure on to try and effect some change in policy.

I don’t expect any quick solutions, it would be misleading of me to suggest otherwise, but I will not be content until I have seen some progress.

          Best wishes

All it needs is a lil groundswell inside the organisation of enough senior folk and something might start to change. I'll add my voice to the call for support. Maybe in these lean times, the bean counters have actually woken up to the fact that us sad old *******s driving teenage Audi's have a capacity and desire to spend money on their beloved old machines - even if they are the forgotten sons of Ingolstadt.

Update I have recieved an email from David today and it looks like there is a glimmer of hope as to the parts supply

                  Hi Amanda

Just to give you an update, I am advised that Audi Tradition will be
launching an online shop early in 2010, hopefully during the first
quarter, which will be offering parts which are no longer available
                  through the normal channels.

I am not going to suggest that this will be the answer to all our
problems, but maybe it is the start of a channel through which owners
from around the world can communicate their needs. At least this way our
parent company should be able to gauge the demand for each individual
item as requests will go directly to them, enabling them to see where
                  the critical areas are.

At least the subject is on the agenda now, and I am happy with that. I
see this as a positive first step, but I do not want everyone to expect
too much all at once. I will keep the pressure on, and monitor the
situation as much as I can - hopefully we will all see a gradual
                  improvement to this issue.

As I hear more, I will keep you posted.

                  Very best wishes

                  David

Some news is better than no news I suppose.... Hardly fills you with confidence does it...

But to be honest I am finding that the lack of support seems inherent across the whole of the VAG company...

I now have 3 x Mk2 golfs and from what I am finding is that the parts for these are harder to find than some S2 parts...

I understand that parts are not a big money spinner, (I also know it doesn't seem like that when you ask for prices from the stealers) and in some cases actually cost the company more money than its worth to stock parts, but I do think the have a duty of care to thier long standing customers to keep a certain amount of spares and why not re-run high in demand parts...

They must have the tooling so its just a matter of getting them produced.

If VAG were more proactive with forums like this they could put out announcements that certain parts were been re-issued so get 'em ordered if you want 'em...

                    Just MHO....

Oh my, a glimmer of hope for all of us.
Why did VAG ever let things get to this whilst at the same time preach about their heritage?
Nice to see something more concete is being done about the situation. many thanks to all involved and please pass my best wishes for success to the people working on this.
Is there any point setting up a petition and sending it on? Would sheer numbers not sway opinion at the top?
                      Cheers

I have run into the same problem with parts being listed NLA for my RS2 and it looks like some progress is being made with the Audi Tradition on-line shop launch next year. I would be more than happy to support a petition or help in some other way.

                        Good work Amanda!

                          i've been on the site.
Let's hope Audi pull their finger out.
They use and refer to quattro all the time as a main part of the branding, and is a crazy situation that you cannot get parts for them.
BMW built a complete 2002 turbo with parts from their spare dept as an excercise.

bit harsh really the youngest mk2's will be on the verge of 20years old now! i mean im all for more parts but its not just VAG stable that has this problem, do you think you could go out and buy a front slam panel for a uno turbo from the stealers or a window rubber for a toyota corolla Gti? the fact of the matter is parts get fazed out i personally have found vw always pretty good at getting me parts or trying to find me alternatives audi on the other hand just have nothing!! in all the trips ive made for numerous parts (90 and s2) the only thing ive come away with was the lower door mouldings for the s2 and even then 2 are NLA!

the only way to change things is to speak up and i take a to the people sorting this and writing in to try

I don't know if any of you are aware that you can already get obsolete parts direct from germany via www.vw-classicparts.de.

I like many people thought the classic parts division is only for beetle bits but having dealt with them several times now I can say with confidence that they have access to (and resources to locate) many other Volkswagen and Audi parts.

The staff are extremely helpful and will source parts from around Europe to fulfil orders. For example two weeks ago I ordered replacement headlamp washer jets for my V8. One was in their stock and the other came from the other side of Germany. Another example is a customer of mine who is restoring a MkII Golf 16v. He has placed an order with them and all the parts are being sourced from around Germany and even from Spain.

If that's not dedicated enough then I don't what more you expect them to do

Suffice to say that I'm sure (and I hope) that an Audi Tradition online shop would be merely be a different name for this already established service.
