Hello can anyone help? Aby engine with 140k miles. I can hear a sound which is tappetty. Not sure what it is. Any suggestions? No smoke, no other noises or
lack of power. Noisy injectors? Tappets? A pump or pulley? Any suggestions on what and how to check to get rid of this noise would be most appreciated.
Cheers in advance.
Check your spark plugs as when they start to loosen they sound 'tappety' then one day BANG as it fires through the coil and cover. Tappets do make noises on these engiones if the oil is a bit too thin or a poor quality oil, or if the level is below 1/2 way in the range on the dip stick.

This will sound mental, however, try spraying a drop of WD40 on the hydraulic pump belt. This belt sometimes makes a ticking noise and WD stops it.
I have had an intermittent noise from my PAS pump. If you get a long screwdriver and use it like a stethoscope you will hear it. It sounds almost identical to worn tappets.
I think I did the above and it went away....
